Amplifier Mods
I doubt Steve would be able to address TRL mods, as they are proprietary and undisclosed. I do know that TRL has modified a lot of gear, including amps. I'm not sure they have done a DNA, but I know another Audiogon member (lkdog) who had his Musi...
how can a line cord affect frequency response ?
Robert,Always glad to hear your thoughts on the subject. Based on our previous discussions, I also suspect a device like the Z-der block, in conjunction with a properly designed power cord, provides an even greater capability for a components powe...
AH Njoe Tjoeb 4000. Is it bad idea?
This is a pretty system dependent question. I suppose too many tubes could impart excessive warmth, but I also think it depends on what those tube components are. In my system, I decided against a tube digital front end, since I was already runnin...
SOTA Nova vs SME 20/2
I have onwed SOTA tables for 10 years now, first a Star Series III and now a Nova Series V. I know their are many other fine tables out there but my next upgrade will be to a Cosmos. I'm SOTA all the way.
whats the best styus cleaner gel
I've been using the Zerodust for a while with great results. Quick and easy to use.
Which Tube Phono Stage around $1k?
Dlwask - I'm running the Hagerman Trumpet in my system now using a K&K step-up transformer. NOS RCA 12AU7 tubes and NOS Mullard 12AX7 tubes, both quads from the late '50s. I am very pleased with the performance.
Is it time to get active?
If you've been happy with the passive preamp perhaps an active preamp that is transparent, but provides some warmth in the form of tubes would be nice to check out. The Modwright 9.0 SE comes to mind. These are showing up under $2k used here and m...
Tracking Force Gauges
The Wally Scale is $150 and comes with the extra fixture to place the stylus on.
Has anyone heard the modified TRL/Sony DVP-NS900V
Mine should be shipped this week. There have been a couple of new developments with the battery power modification over the last few weeks. I would suggest you speak to TRL to get accurate details. From my understanding the changes have a very pos...
Anyone try the "hybrid" copper/silver ic's?
I've tried the Xtreme X-2 hybrid ICs. I ran them from my preamp to amp. I believe the ratio of copper to silver is in favor of copper by a pretty good margin. The ICs sounded nice, no excessive brightness and very smooth.
DAC-AH - upgrade to Audio Mirror?
I have an Audio Mirror D1 DAC that I felt in stock form was fantastic and have since had it modified by TRL with exceptional results. You can read my review on it in the review section as I was able to do a A/B comparison between the modded and an...
TRL Marantz Sa-14
La45 - I've ordered the X-2 cables and they take a couple weeks to ship. The X-1 cables should be here soon and I'll be able to listen to them for a bit prior to swapping in the X-2s. Hopefully I'll have my Sony next week and can start the break i...
Need help to trouble shoot the noisy amp.
Perhaps the best thing to do is go back to the manufacturer and provide the same description and ask the same question. Are the amps consecutive serial numbers? Who is the manufcaturer?
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
For the last 7 years I have driven a 1972 Porsche 911T Targa. It originally had the 2.4 liter engine with dual triple barrel Webber carbs. It has been renovated over the first 4 years to include a 1978 911SC 3.0 liter engine with fuel injection.
Best DAC $1000 and under used
IMO you will get more mileage out of non-os DACs in your price range. The Audio Mirror, lower end Audio Note, Audio Sector, and Scott Nixon come to mind. Most of these will be available new in your price range with money left over for a nice digit...
