Do old Acoustats compete with new 'stats or dynamics I have a pair of Model 2s that came with the interfaces but I modified them to work with a pair of the Acoustat servo amps I picked up. I also modified the panels to achieve greater dispersion. The sound fine on their own, but subs do improve thin...
Active or passive? As to why there aren’t more active speakers available, I think it’s due to the flexibility of picking your own amp at your comfortable price point and also being able to upgrade in the future. So you have both flexibility of sound characteristics ...
Need 20 - 25 foot spk cables. I would stick with the coaxial. Go on eBay and search for OCOS cable. I have used it in the past for long runs. Not expensive either.
Tube amp forethought @bdp24 that was a good score on the amp. It looked really clean. FWIW Roger uses the 8 ohm taps with his RM-10 but as he would tell you, try it both ways and use the tap you like best.
Hornshoppe "the Truth" preamp - any opinions? I purchased this preamp back in 2010 or 2011. I liked it quite a bit using it with a Transcendent OTL. Alas haven't used it in years. Probably need to pass it on to someone that can use it more than me.
Which Stands for Magnepan LRS (and other models): Mye, Magnariser, Sound Anchor, etc @meiatflask, "gunned" refers to the Maggies that are reworked by John from Magnestand:http://www.indiespinzone.com/magnestand.html
Things that make you go, "Hmmmmm...." Cary 308T, Revox B226-S, and Studer A727 still fetch pretty good money on the used market.
Which Stands for Magnepan LRS (and other models): Mye, Magnariser, Sound Anchor, etc I don't own Maggies but if I did I would would either have them "gunned" or get Magna Risers. Rob recently made me a set of risers for my Acoustat Model 2s. It took a little while for the work to be completed due to it being a custom job he took o...
Sound Labs Wins! I was pretty disappointed in that room, and the show in general. Lucky for me I live in the area and didn't have to invest much to attend.
The best place to listen to music?? @mijostyn, I just noticed the speakers were Line Magnetic as well. For some reason that escaped me on my previous visits. I wish they would have had the Devore speakers playing on one of my visits but they weren’t hooked up yet. Maybe next time.Th...
The best place to listen to music?? If you are in the Bay Area check out Bar Shiru in Oakland which borrowed the concept, but not the owners attitude. https://www.barshiru.com/Horn speakers, as well as a set of Devore. Mostly Line Magnetic electronics, but some Parasound (they are l...
TRL WON'T GIVE ME MY AMP Well to add to the intrigue it appears that the website I referenced earlier is currently down for maintenance:http://tuberesearchlab.com/
TRL WON'T GIVE ME MY AMP I was a TRL owner in the past when it was just Paul and his brother Brian working together. I had modifications done to digital gear and owned both a solid state preamp and amplifier. Paul was one of the good guys in audio throughout his time and ...
Tube amp forethought Roger Modjeski used the QUAD as his load when designing that amp. We still use a Quad 57 in the shop today when we test amps we build or repair. If the 57s in question have the Zener clamp boards (an upgrade as they were not supplied at the factor...
Music Reference RM-200 We don't brand the Gold Lion KT-88s so those could have possibly come from us. We brand the Chinese KT-88s. I'm pretty sure our 6BQ7s are Sylvania but we brand them as well. One way to determine how well balanced the output tubes are is to take a v... |
