Poiema shielded? I inquired with Robert back when I had a pair of P3's and he does not use traditional shielding (braids, foils, etc.) in the design. Instead he uses a judicious amount of ERS cloth to reject RF.
Worth having my SOTA Sapphire refurbished? I had my Star Sapphire upgraded to a Nova Series V. For the price I paid for the upgrade I would have had to spend at least double on a new table to come close to the sonics of the refurbished SOTA. Kirk and Donna are great to deal with and if you...
Hairdryer for Sale on Gon Isn't that the purpose behind Brian Kyle's ad? To let people know that a product has been developed that provides the results you describe and to get people to try it. Am I missing something?
Possibly the best pre-amp one can have Not the same but someone else using an opamp in their preamp design. This one is passive though.I took a gamble and emailed Charlie too.
K&K Phono The best attribute of the K&K is that it is extremely quiet. The SE version which I had exhibited exceptional bass and was very clear on the top end. Not lush IMO, but leaning more towards the neutral side. If you get the version that allows y...
Nakamichi cassette playback in non-Nak deck? Same experience here. I used to play NAK recorded tapes on a Tandberg 440A. The Nak recorded tapes didn't sound as good, but they didn't sound unlistenable by any stretch either.I just unearthed the following decks from storage:NAK 550 (2 of them)...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? Raul, thanks I will give them a call. Also, found a second Grado Reference Platinum (used) and an Audioquest PT-6 tonearm.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? I recently cleaned out my storage unit in Denver where I new I had some audio treasures stashed. However, a couple of items I found surprised me. The first was a Grado Reference Platinum NIB. The second was a B&O MMC2 NIB which I must have bou...
What is the best DAC under $2000 and why? Monarchy NM24 (or the tube only predecessor M24). The NM24 has tube and solid state output stages so you can switch between the two. A great DAC (and can also serve as a tube linestage) for well under $2000. Very smooth sound with no graininess or...
Resitor Passive I'm wondering if there is some synergy between the PiaB and the RM9 that Roger is exploiting? I am thinking of getting an RM10 and if I do may experiment with the PiaB.On the other hand I've also been chatting to John Chapman about getting the new...
Hybrid integrated, best of both worlds? Since I identified the Avatar as my integrated of choice a few month back I have seen 4 for sale here. Haven't pulled the trigger on one yet as I'm still procrastinating on a few things. I'm very confident though one will pop up. Comes with a phon...
What's a good beginner turntable at $2500+- range? Definitely contact John Barnes at Audio Unlimited in Denver. He is a very good source of knowledge on analog gear. I've dealt with him numerous times in the past. You also owe it to yourself to visit with Thom and Chris as Nrenter suggests. You're ...
What's a good beginner turntable at $2500+- range? Exactly. Raise the budget to $4000, get the Galibier, and be done with it. On the other hand although its an overseas purchase the Scheu table for sale here right now is downright amazing as well. I purchased a MkII version used with 50mm platter ...
Suggestions for good shielded interconnects? You might be able to snag a set of Purist Audio Venustas in your budget. I used a set on my phonostage for quite some time. Very nice cable.Roger Modjeski at Music Reference also makes a nice set of shielded cables. Very reasonably priced.
XLR cable with RCA output Purist Audio also makes the adapters and if you can locate them Infinity Audio makes a nice set too. In my case I just had my cable reterminated. In hindsight that probably wasn't too wise as there is not much of a market when selling these cables. |
