Proper Toe-in Configuration
I tried the method in the link posted by Team212 about a month ago and it works very well. In some ways it is very similar to the Audiophysic set-up method. I learned a lot about bass response using this method. Bass has never sounded smoother in ...
Tube-friendly speakers
I use VAC 70 watt amps with Audiokinesis Jazz Modules. Full range floor standing speakers. Duke Lejeune makes them and he's a Sound Labs dealer as well. He'll be able to tell you more on how they compare to the planar sound, but I can tell you the...
Where to next? From LP12 to what 3-4000 TT?
I am not sure if all linear tracking tables are created equal. On mine though all I have to do is set the VTF. No worries about alignment, anti-skating, or VTA. Tracking is more accurate from what I've been told than non-linear tracking set-ups.
Rowland Criterion vs Joule-Electra LA 300ME
Am I wrong or depending on finish is the Capri $1700 - $2000 less than the Audio Valve (MSRP $4799). If that is the case I wouldn't say the price of the Audio Valve is a "tad more." Performance wise I can't comment since I haven't heard the Audio ...
Best I2s cable for the Money?
If it were me knowing what I know today I'd stick with the stock cable. IIRC the RAL cable cost me $295 and versus the stock Northstar cable I didn't hear that much difference. I have no comparative test results to refer you too, but you might wan...
Where to next? From LP12 to what 3-4000 TT?
I own the Scheu Premier with the 50mm platter and it is a very good table. Degree of set-up difficulty is left up to the arm and cartridge you buy. In your budget you should also check out the Galibier Serac with Artisan tonearm. Just under 4k or ...
Are you using anti-skating or not
Of course the real solution is a linear tracking arm.Eldartford (Reviews | Threads | Answers)Yep.
Rowland Criterion vs Joule-Electra LA 300ME
The Joule is single ended in stock form. I know in the past I have seen for sale here a balanced version of one of the Joule preamps, but single ended is the rule. An HT bypass has been offered in the past, not sure about the LA-3000ME though. I h...
AR ES-1 table w/AQ tonearm
As already suggested go to the Vinyl Nirvana site. There is some great information on AR tables and mods for them. You might also want to research the mods done by Anthony Scilia. From my own research of AR mods when I had some interest in these t...
Harbeth
I've heard both but not a/b'ed them. For your musical tastes I'd go with the Harbeth.
Promitheus Ref TVC and RWA Sig 30.2 Power Amp
Let us know how it sounds after you've let it settle in a bit.
Musical full-range in the $3-4K range used?
Another vote for Audiokinesis speakers. I started out with the Stormbringers (no longer made) and then upgraded to the Jazz Modules. Ralph Karsten has summed up the speakers quite well. For 10 years previous to owning Audiokinesis speakers I was c...
Please suggest good balanced Preamp
I have listened to the MP-3 quite a bit as I know a few people who own them. At CES I sat with Ralph Karsten for about an hour listening to the MP-1 with vinyl as the source (Porcupine Tree no less, Ralph is a big fan). The MP-3 is very transparen...
Please suggest good balanced Preamp
Add the Jeff Rowland Capri to your list. This preamp really surprised me and has great synergy with my VAC tube amps. While you mention the MP-1 being expensive, the MP-3 should be right around your price range. An excellent tube preamp.
Jolida JD-9A Phono Stage Hum Problem
Try some weight on top of the case in combination with some type of rubber material above where the transformer is located. See if that improves things. As an example, I use 40 durometer rubber squares on top of the transformer cover of my amps, t...
