Are cable “upgrades” just as likely to make your system sound worse?
carlsbad2 Very seldom do people report a failed upgrade. People report disappointment here all the time. Many tout how they take advantage of 30-day return privileges, or are willing to churn used gear until they find the synergy they seek. Th...
DAC's from the past, are any of them really worth much today?
tvrgeek ... first generation CD players were not that bad.  Yes differences, but come on now ... I thought they all sounded different and were all awful. I remember how excited I was the first CD players debuted and how disappointed my firs...
Why Streaming Service Sounds ‘Flat’ vs Tune In /Local FM /Radio Paradise
Sources such as Radio Paradise and FM stations are compressed and go through signal processing to various degrees. Many listeners prefer that.
DAC's from the past, are any of them really worth much today?
tvrgeek ... Almost all of my music is old enough to have been mastered on tape, so there is no such thing as highly detailed ... Either there's something wrong with your system or you've been listening to the wrong material. Or both. Some ...
Should I graduate to floor standers or will larger bookshelves suffice?
bassdude The Legacy Calibres are superb and have the advantage of a great soundstage because they are a hybrid open baffle / dipole speaker, Those speakers aren't dipoles: The Calibre is a very high density package, weighing in at 50lb...
Is there a way to switch one set of speakers between two sound systems?
I'm not familiar with the Luxman, but many of these switchers cannot be used with balanced amplifiers because the switch uses a common ground. You'll want to check on that if you're using balanced amps.
How easily can you distinguish between different DACs?
invalid ... just choose the DAC that has the output stage built on the chip because it measures great, would you buy a preamp that uses an opamp output stage because it measures better than a discreet output stage? Many fine preamplifiers use ...
Has This Kind of Tonearm Been Made?
pindac ... there will be Cartridge Bodies, Tonearms, Speakers produced from such Technology in the not too distant future ... We're already there. VPI uses 3-D printed pickup arm tubes.

It looks like the Panasonic doesn't play SACDs. I don't understand why truly universal disc players aren't more common.

stuartk There is nothing inherently "pretentious" about choosing separate transport and DAC over a CDP.  For many of us,the former route is a superior choice due to what we hear ... Of course. It's also more practical because you can replace t...

polkalover ... its not a belief system when its digital ... Insisting that a demonstrable, measurable difference is  "insignificant" is a subjective judgment and so very much part of a "belief system." It doesn't matter if we're talking d...

arafiq The question that OP posed was answered by many. Now the goal posts are shifted - "but why does it sound better? give me concrete proof!"  It's a game some play here. In this thread, a difference was established and measured, but a meas...
Speaker Cable Recommendation
tvrgeek "Significant" ?   I think some folks should look up the word in the dictionary.  Different? Yes, but tiny, tiny, tiny unless you are letting your belief system modify what you hear vs. the actual sound.  What constitutes "significa...

carlsbad2 Playing moderator here: Nobody has said what an expensive streamer does differently than a budget streamer. Yes they have. Perhaps you just don't care for the explanations.
Phono cable (RCA-RCA) from TT to Phono Pre Question
Capacitance is really a concern only with MM cartridges. What cartridge are you using?
