Monitor Audio Pl 300ii vs. KEF Reference 5
bo1972 I talked with many people about trial and error. These people are all persons who work in audio for a long time. No one could explain to me that he uses any kind of foundation. They all agreed that is is based on gambling and hoping for...
Which Nakamichi to choose?
terry9Not an archival medium? Depends. Cheap stuff, 120 minutes, agreed. Metal Type 4, 60 minutes duration, absolutely disagree. The facts speak for themselves. You can’t get flat frequency response to 20K on cassette at 0 dB - when cassette manufa...
Which Nakamichi to choose?
leoniruiiHad a 680 ZX for a short while which was also a quality device. The 680 is an outstanding machine. I still have mine - it was expertly serviced last year by Soundsmith. I use it with a Nakamichi NR200 outboard Dolby B/C unit. When level...
Which Nakamichi to choose?
lowrider57Proper bias is of course very important, but would you archive vinyl using Dolby?I wouldn't choose to archive anything on cassette. It's just not an archival medium.
Replacing generic RECEPTACLES
degnanjeI use "20 amp" receptacles regardless of whether the receptacle is on a 15 or 20 amp circuit ...That is definitely a code violation in many places, and potentially hazardous.
Tracking Force Range, Benz M2
tzh21yThis is where that whole conversation comes into play that once the cartridge is altered by someone other than the original manufacturer, that the cartridge is no longer that cartridge.  Try to do it by ear. Aligning and adjusting a pho...
What do you think of this minimalist recording?
I think it’s great that you do your own recording, and it’s long puzzled me that more audiophiles don’t do the same. When you make your own recordings, you’re in the best position to judge how your system sounds. After all, you were there at the o...

This thread seems to show what happens when troll meets troll. It reminds me of the old "Spy vs. Spy" cartoons in Mad magazine, except those cartoons were actually amusing ... or at least they seemed that way. But I should be forgiven for that - I...
Over damped Room?
trytoneThe famous REG tries to listen in a "reflection free zone"I'm not sure how "famous" REG is, but who wants to listen in a "reflection free zone?" That would be an anechoic chamber. That's no way to live, and typical loudspeakers are not ...

@hifiman5 thanks for the explanation. I’m inclined to think your motives for the thread were sincere, and I think it could have led to an interesting conversation. On the other hand: The premise that the "West is moving from the Modern Era when rea...

hifiman5I started a thread last evening about how cultural changes occurring in Western nations might impact the audiophile world and how we post and perceive the posts of others.  Upon opening my laptop this morning the thread was removed by...

Ortofon 2M Red Alignment Issue
stevecham It is not the arm but the protractor. It’s not likely that Ortofon provided an inaccurate alignment gauge. serginhoparkour ... after some research I decided to use Conrad Hoffman’s Arc Template Generator...have you tried by any chance? ...
Ortofon 2M Red Alignment Issue
One of two things is at play here: Either the pivot-to-spindle distance is wrong, or the cartridge manufacturer contemplated a different alignment than whomever aligned the pickup arm.
