Best Speaker for Wall Placement?
If price is not a factor(it wasn't mentioned),the Wilson Duettes are designed for this very situation - difficult rooms and/or right up against a wall.
Quad ESL 57 are there better speakers out there??
A friend back in the 70s had the Quad ESL-57s, a Quad 405 amp and he switched between a Dynaco Pat-5 and a Quad preamp. A turntable of course was his source. I spent hundreds of hours listening to this system and 30+ years later haven't heard anyt...

Cables for B&W 805S
Thanks Jwpstayman- When you say the new Synergistic Research cables, I'm thinking you're talking about the new 'Tesla' and not the B&W specific cables they have. I think I'll try the AU24, Tesla and 8TC. The 805S are 'broken in'. I almost gave...
Cables for B&W 805S
I too found it helped having the stands filled with sand. I might try your "blue tack material" and the Kimber 8TC was another I had wanted to hear. Thank you for the info Elizabeth!
Best New Riders of the Purple Sage recording
I would say the 'best' from top to bottom is the first, NRPS, but if I had to pick one it would be Gypsy Cowboy. These guys actually put out a lot of recorded music but the first three albums were never equalled (in my opinion). Buddy Cage was/(is...
cello music
I'd recommend the Haydn Cello concertos. Haydns are easy to enjoy. Yo Yo Ma has recorded them (they are ADD). A terrific recording in my opinion is by cellist Steven Isserlis (DDD). For 'less' instruments you might like the Beethoven works for pia...
Ayre / Aesthetix hum problems?
I have a buddy I met here on A-gon who likes his Aesthetix Calypso so I thought I'd take a chance on one. If any of you who own the Ayre V-5xe and have had reservations (as I did) about hum issues with a Calypso, this problem has been solved. Than...
OK...ONE LAST SPEAKER QUESTION cash cash
Bartokfan, If your above post is a joke and I missed it- my fault. I've never heard the Spendors, but for all of those who own and love them, what qualifies you to be the absolute truth in proclaiming they are "bunk"? Maybe you should read the fir...
Upgrading to Totem Mani 2's
I've never seen a picture of Totem speakers with the optional grill and might have read that Vince does not like them. This might be sacrilege to ask, but do any of you use the optional grills with the Mani-2 Sig? If you've done a comparision do t...
BAT VK-51 SE vs. CAT SL-1 U.MK II vs. Nagra PL-L
Frankpiet, I answered a few of your past threads saying how nice the 51SE was. With due respect, I'm confused. From your very recent remarks about the modded Ayre preamp you had (better than Calypso, etc), I though you were set for the next ten ye...
Home made absorption panels.....
Tvad - Thanks for an excellent, cost effective idea.
Anybody use Running Springs Audio Conditioners?
I too have the Jaco. I've never owned another conditioner so can't compare, but feel it's made a dramatic improvement to my system. I'm running my cd, preamp and amp through the unit. I've been meaning to try running the amp directly to the dedica...
Ayre V-5xe best tube pre-amp to match with?
Frankpiet - I had trouble with a DeHavilland Ultra Verve when matching with Ayre. This is in NO way a knock on the DeHavilland as it worked fine with another SS amp, and at it's price I think it's one of the best buys out there.. but for some reas...
