Audio Research LS-16 Mk2 vs LS-17 preamp
The SP16 is NOT the same as an LS 16 with a phono preamp added! As the people at ARC will tell you, the SP16 is a lesser level preamp than the LS16 (no offense, just clarifying) in their line up.
Audio Research preamp LS vs SP
According to the nice people at ARC, the current LS models are made to a higher standard and better performance than the LS models - for those reading this posting in the current day period.
rel with monoblocks
To those that are now reading this old post, the issue with monoblock and dual mono amps is that the standard hook-up of the Rel subwoofers will result in combining the two channels of music (not just the bass) when connected the standard way (per...
Best way to hear a puccini?Direct or thru preamp?
I don't have the Puccini, but did have Delius and Purcel. I prefered them through a preamp, an Aesthetix Calypso. But I have heard and spoken with people that prefer them direct (as well as other brands, ie. Wadia, Audio Aero,Emm Labs [all of whic...
Auditioning a Tube Amp
Make sure it is dead quiet. There should be no buzzing coming from the amp or the speakers. If there is buzzing, don't buy it, there is something wrong! Anybody that tells you that you are supposed to get buzzing or hums from a tube amp has only l...
krell hts 7.1 vs proceed avp2?
My experience is just the opposite as the poster above, for two channel performance. The latest version (ie. 2008) of the Krell HTS 7.1 had what was/is primarily their KCT preamp as the two channel, direct preamp section. This is a highly regarded...
Do subwoofers really help?
Perhaps you should contact Paul Speltz regarding the autoformers before you make any big steps. I have not tried these, but I believe the purpose of them is related to your issues. Based on my assumption that the impedance curve of your speakers c...
Tape Project-Any reason so many tapes are showing
I thought people were getting out of it because Ronco has come out with a similar program for much less, using 8-track tapes.
help w/amp demo
Additionally, the sensitivity rating of the speaker can be less of an indicator than the impedance curve or consistancy. Tubes do best with a fairly flat (or certainly not wide fluctuations) with the impedance load. I don't recall off the top of m...
Re-Post: Help? only one subwoofer channel works
When you say it is shutting off or muting the rest of your system, to me, this is a sign that there is a short. I was recently installing in wall speakers in my Theatre room and the insulation had a foil backing. Everytime I hooked up my front lef...
Johnny Cash...Sounding Better Than Ever?
Love Johnny Cash, everybody in my family seems to dig his music, from my daughter (9), son (13), wife and even when my parents visit (late 70s). A lot of people say they don't like country music (me generally being one of them), Johnny Cash is a m...
audio aero
Having owned the AA Capitole my experience was that it performs better direct with some amps than with others. That being said, I also feel that over performance is better with a good preamp. Due to the very warm sound of the AA, I would be go wit...
krell ksa100 vs. audio research 150.2
You will not get the same sound out of the KAV300r as you will out of the KSA100. The 300 R is a Krell budget component and in my opinion is not much better than many other similar types of components (Rotel, etc. . .). The KSA is a lot heavier be...
Krell primer?
I currently own and love my Krell FPB 300-C. I upgraded from the FPB 200. Obviously the C and CX versions are the newer/newest versions of the FPB Series. That being said, I never had a hick-up, concern or any issues with the FPB 200 (before upgra...
Volume Control thru Duet remote or Preamp remote?
Definately the preamp. I have a Duet going to a DAC, going to a preamp. Both my preamp and DAC have significantly better volume attenuation/control than the one in the DAC (either via digital out or analog out). For convenience (background music),...
