Using Japan 100V Accuphase amp in US 120V. Safe? I had bought a 100v version of the F 25 Accuphase crossover. I had also been told that this was OK for 120v and have been using it that way for nearly a year. However, prompted by this article, I took off the bottom plate and their is a guide, as ...

Stand alone tweeters You may not always be able to hear them directly that well but you can hear the effect. Commentators say they can't hear the Townshend supertweeters at all when they put their ear up to them, but when they are turned off, the difference in the tot...
Stand alone tweeters They work. I use Aurum Cantus ribbons with custom foils, but I use an active crossover and a separate amp. I think the issues are speed, dispersion and harmonics. Even if your speakers have response past 20Khz, are they really really fast above 10...
Review: EMM Labs DAC6e Signature Edition DA converter Sounds like a good excuse for a BAAS meeting. A Peychev Esoteric UX-1/Meitner Stack face off. That would be a close call.
Herbie Hancock & Chick Corea This is a great album. I recently bought the Polydor 2 record set and the Columbia two record set as well. They have different selections from the same tour except side 4, which is the same song. The Polydor is much better sounding on LP for some ...
Are Accuphase preamps "dull" sounding ? I use an Accuphase active crossover, which is a kind of preamp. I like tubes, and have tried as hard as I can to find something wrong with the sound of the Accuphase, but I can't, it sounds great. I will keep trying, though.
Questions about SACD vs.analog for classical music I have heard the Emm labs stuff a couple of times on a couple of high end setups. Vinyl is still superior in two channels, although the Emm labs stuff does sound good. However, I would say that multi channel SACD is a contender for classical music...
SME 20/2 update history I saw an SME 30 with a power supply that resembled a much larger version of the SME 10 power supply with the push buttons. Very chic looking compared to the somewhat clunky older version, I guess the new version is the PP.

Velodyne ULD 15 repair Last year, I bought a pair of refurbished ULD 15's that had been repaired by the factory here locally in the Bay Area. It did look brand new and the performance is great. The Velodyne factory must have stopped doing this recently.
How to be an online curmudgeon? Don't forget: "And I am cancelling my subscription to the vile publication that you have comtaminated so badly I can no longer in good conscience abide it in my home".
What time do you wear? Casio Lithium plastic watch. It has run for over ten years without a battery replacement. Cost $12. I love these little plastic watches, inexpensive technology that works gets my vote.
Manly Steelhead - any downside?? I run the Steelhead through the transformers and prefer the MC transformer input sound quality over the MM. I find with my cartridge that the transformer coupled sound is silky and very enchanting. However, I think that Michael Fremer in his revie... |
