Owned a lot of 45's when I was a kid (I'm 57), and of course handled and heard my parents LP's but MY 1st 3 LP purchases were The Supremes Greatest Hits, Vanilla Fudge, & Sgt. Pepper's. It's hard to explain growing up with the Beatles to peopl...
Piece of Audio gear you regret selling
Sold my Nak tape deck a few yrs back. Hadn't used it in yrs but oddly enough, I regret selling it. Got the same thing going on with a Denon tuner sitting in my closet. Hasn't been used in yrs, but I still can't bring myself to pull the trigger!
What is the best quality boom box w/cd player.
JVC Kaboom is the way to go!
Why Doesn't Contemporary Jazz Get Any Respect?
Jazz-Lovers Take Heed!! A few weeks ago NARAS decided to cut/get rid of quite a few categories from the Grammy awards. One of the genres chopped was my favorite music; Latin Jazz! I realize there aren't many fans here but cutting Latin Jazz furthe...
thoughts while listening
I'm mentally 'air-guitaring', regardless of instument or genre. Doesn't matter if it's Hendrix, Coltrane, or Nojima!
What is “warmth” and how do you get it?
Terrific dialog, well done fellas! While I understand what's been said, my experience has been a simpler one. I bought a pair of Spendor S100's in 1990. At the time, my system was solid-state driven. I was able to audition a pair of (at the time) ...
Why Doesn't Contemporary Jazz Get Any Respect?
While I'd NEVER put John McLaughlin And Smooth Jazz in the same sentence (although I just did!;), I'd agree about the sound of his guitar in his last few recordings being entirely too processed and sterile. John's most smokin' recording was done w...
Why Doesn't Contemporary Jazz Get Any Respect?
Interesting thread. But the true question should be; Why Doesn't JAZZ Get Any Respect?! When was the last time you saw a Jazz segment on an awards show? Where are all the Jazz stations on radio? Why are Jazz clubs so hard to find? IMO Jazz can be ...
Live vs. recorded
To paraphrase the Duke - There's only 2 types of 'live' and studio recordings, good ones and all the rest! I could easily come up with a list of great 'live' recordings and just as easily make a list of the 'dogs' I've heard!
What music do you want to play really loud?
I own 4-5 KC records, the last being "Too Cool To Conga!". Wasn't aware of this live record, thx for the tip!!
Opinions - The Absolute Sound
I understand and agree with the ops that for the price, it's a no-brainer. On the other hand, for those of us that were into the magazine (and all the others) 25-30 yrs ago, it's hard to reconcile today's version with what was, at the time, an ext...
Is Jim Smith's Book"Get Better Sound"Best Book ?
Seems like every generation a 'definitive' audio book is written. I own both Laura Dearborn's 'Good Sound' & Harley's 'Guide to High-End Audio'. My question is for those who own all of the books; will I find out anything in Smith's book that h...
Tell the truth How often do you clean your gear?
Good One Oz! Made me actually LOL!!!;)
Most sophisticated and intelligent musician
Bobby McFerrin gets my vote for most intelligent vocal artist. Just picked up VOCAabuLarieS and it's simply brilliant. Music & Sonics - 10+++
Eric Clapton Clapton
Hey Swan! Sorry about the tone of my response. You said we're on the same page but I disagree. You feel the playing on Layla is 'fast & sloppy', where as I feel it's inspired. Layla is considered one of the greatest Rock records ever, it's arg...
