R.I.P. Levon Helm
I'm a much bigger fan of Levon Helms than of the Band. Understandably, most of the reactions I've read here and elsewhere reference his work with the Band. I've said it before, and I'll say it again (sadly, I'm realizing it's the last time I'll do...
Oil For Nottingham Spacedeck?
Paying $100 for a bottle of motor oil reminds me those audiophile green felt tip pens! After 25+ yrs in this hobby I wish my ears were so fine-tuned as to be able to hear the difference in oil!!! Since the OP just purchased the TT, I'd LOVE for hi...
LED vs Plasma, 60" vs 65"
While I understand energy consumption concerns, I read somewhere that Plasma (flat screens in general actually) use far less energy than our old tube TV's, so it's all relative I guess.
Best Live Album Ever...
The Band - Rock Of Ages Levon Helm - Ramble At The Ryman
Best Live Album Ever...
Bob Marley Live - Unquestionably one of the greatest 'live' records ever made. If you enjoy this, I'd strongly recommend Marley's 'Live At The Roxy'. Recorded in '76 (1 year after the 1st live record) and released in 2003. Curiously, this record h...
Best internet stations for Jazz, esp. Classic/Cool
Accujazz.com - simply the best so far!
Bloodline-"Bloodline" Smokin' Joe Bonamassa
Bonamassa's a monsta! I read recently that his new recording with his latest band; Black Country Communion, is LIVE! Haven't got it yet but I'm expecting nothing short of greatness!
How many LP's do you own? How long did it take?
Raul - I understand your point about quantity owned vs. quantity listened to but....even though I may not listen to them all, all the time, it's KNOWING what I have, and that I CAN listen whenever I want that gives my collection it's value. I thin...
How many LP's do you own? How long did it take?
3000+I'm fortunate in that even before becoming aware of 'Audiophilia', and was playing records on an old BIC TT, I ALWAYS handled my records by the edges, seemed logical. Now I find a lot of my records that are 30-40 yrs old still sound very clea...
What is Jazz?
One of the saddest realities, for me, is how much more popular Jazz is overseas than here in the states. Even sadder is that it's been that way practically since it's inception. The fact that many American Jazz musicians have chosen to live in Eur...
What is Jazz?
-I should know the answer to that question; but I don't, because the answer is too complex.-This statement shows that you DO know the answer!;)Orph (may I call you orph!?;), I've always felt Jazz to be such a vast genre. If you factor in group siz...
Stupid speaker test question...please help a n00b
See, I'm convinced I'm an audio neanderthal. I've been into this hobby for over 30 yrs and have NEVER checked a single spec or chart! Always skipped right over any and all tech info in reviews. Did it all by ear baby! Must be why I've got a tube-b...
Blues, Jazz, Rock Violinists?
There you go again, speaking as if your OPINIONS are actually FACTS! Hard for me to fathom how someone that claims to love Jazz can be so tunnel-visioned and narrow-minded (as Jazz is the antithesis of this type of mindset). OK, so according to yo...
Getting and keeping records clean................
Got my Record Doctor at Audio Advisor a long time ago. Record Doctors' were made by Nitty Gritty, pretty much identical to their higher end model minus the wood paneling for 1/2 the cost. Just chk'd real quick and while AA still sells NG, it seems...
How important is an audio rack?
I bought a used Billy Bags rack just cuz I liked the way it looks. It was an upgrade and logic dictated there'd be an improvement in sound quality but I honestly wasn't expecting much. I was very surprised at how much better the system sounded aft...
