What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report
Dafnis Prieto - Triangles & Circles (New & outstanding!)The Brecker Bros. - Live At The Bottom Line 1976 (Also new & outstanding;)!
Great Organists in Rock
Felix Cavaliere - The Rascals!

Frogman - Cool video of Irakere. My one caveat would be that by 1986 D'Rivera & Sandoval had already defected and by this time the band, while by no means abandoning their Jazz roots, had largely become a dance band. They became one of the pio...
Has biwire speaker cabling become "old" ?
My 25 yr old Spendor S100's are configured for TRI-wiring and I've been doing so for over a decade! I recall hearing a difference for the better when I 1st went 'tri' over a decade ago but haven't felt the need to experiment in quite some time. Ho...
Need recommendations.. Solo acoustic guitar CDs
Another great record is by David Grisman & Tony Rice - 'Tone Poems (The sounds of the great vintage guitars and mandolins). Each song features different combos of the instruments and the booklet has photos of these beauties! Here's one that I'...

Congueros!! Now we're talkin' my language!;) Poncho Sanchez is a direct link to the great Cal Tjader. He played with him and continues to this day playing that West Coast style of Latin Soul Jazz. The late Clare Fischer also was an alumni of Cal T...
Need recommendations.. Solo acoustic guitar CDs
Joe Pass - Virtuoso - If you've never heard it, RUN, don't walk!! Buy it and you'll never regret it. If I remember correctly, the very 1st cut is him on an electric gtr but the rest of the record is him on acoustic, amazing!

Have any of you heard Shorter's latest, 'Without A Net'? Astounding!! It's a live set featuring his over-10-yr-old band featuring Danilo Perez, John Pattitucci, & Brian Blade. This band is a Jazz supergroup! Highly recommended.
Mike Porcaro, Toto Bassist Dies from ALS
Too sad. Toto's one of the great Rock bands. Interesting to see them kinda/sorta being referred to in the past sense, they're still alive and well! Their new album is due to be released this month!
Jazz for aficionados
"There was a time, 40 yrs ago or more, when the music had an edge. It was possessed by a renegade spirit. There was an element of danger in it. It was taking risks, crossing boundaries, making discoveries. The musicians themselves didn't have a na...
Jazz for aficionados
I usually give this Jazz thread a quick glance due to it's often stated preference for music from the past being the the be-all and end-all of the genre (which I don't agree with). Usually it's a conversation between the same 1/2 dz. guys that's o...
Best rock bass player
Wasserman plays on a great Rock/Jazz (as opposed to Jazz/Rock!;) record; 'Cosmic Farm' and totally kills it! The record has a 'fat' & 'beefy' bass sound!
Higher resolution Jazz
Here's something that was an absolute truth for me. Older Jazz records (early '60's and before) suffered from a lack of bass content. To my ears, most acoustic Jazz recordings (virtually all of them) seemed to have had this muddy bass 'presence' b...
Frustrated with Bonamassa Live CDs
Interesting, so you think the audio of the same performance is different between the CD & DVD? I'm not saying it isn't, I'm just asking. My DVD player is part of my system, I've recorded music from DVD's onto CD via my CDR recorder. I'd do a t...
Frustrated with Bonamassa Live CDs
The best news re: Joey B. is last week I read a post by Randy Brecker that he's busy writing horn charts for the new Rock Candy Funk Party record! RCFP is Bonamassa's Funk/Fusion band (my favorite project of his! Their 'Live At The Iridium' is kil...
