Why recordings made before 1965 sound better.
I didn’t read every word above, but I don’t think anyone mentioned the proliferation of digital reverb. I worked in the recording industry and there used to be 1 reverb - a plate reverb kept in a separate room away from vibration. That was it. You...
Best drum solo (best drum sound) I have ever heard... and its a YouTube MP4!
Everything old is new again. That link is to an old Charlie Byrd direct-to-disc record that was a darling of the audio salons back in the 80s. Pressed on heavy white vinyl and cut at 45 rpm. I still have a copy. Not a bad record musically. http...
Will I Hear A Difference?
You are at the beginning of your analog journey and it's natural to seek out other peoples' opinions to help you feel more secure in your choice. My advice is this - you are obviously working with a local dealer, which is a great idea, especially ...
New Set Up
Be wary of speakers that impress you with "detail" on first listening, as they can become fatiguing over time.  I'm not saying always, but be careful. I find a good test is to play something off Brubeck's "Take Five" record and listen to Paul Desm...
What's the most overrated or overpriced piece of equipment you own, have owned or come by?
I once owned an Esoteric X-05 and couldn't wait to get rid of it.  A beautiful machine and I wanted to love it, but after 6 months it still sounded dry and harmonically incomplete.  I sold it locally and I insisted the buyer listen before buying, ...
Interconnects matching
Once a hot topic, Gabriel Golds are very good and I believe the maker has a few demo pairs up that will fit in your budget.  Check the search box for old threads with high praise.
DOGE 10 MK3
I cannot give you any specific info on these amps, although I had a Doge5 CD player, which I loved.  But when buying from China, it's worth noting that Doge offers service in the buyer's home country, which is a big plus if you need it.  I don't k...
Onzow ZeroDust reportedly leaves a residue
This is by far the worst news I've heard in the last 2 years.
Kal was right!
It's nice to see someone who bought a product based on actual audition instead of imagination and video reviewers who don't play music.  You spent a lot of money, but you have the satisfaction of knowing you liked what you bought.  I'm sure they w...
Strangest Phono Sound I Ever Heard
So I got the $129 Pro-ject phono stage from Amazon and everything works perfect.  I'm sure I'm the only one in the world using a $5k cartridge with a $129 phono stage.  I'm a little embarrassed to say it doesn't sound horrible at all. You should g...
Strangest Phono Sound I Ever Heard
@apogeum - Good catch.  I reversed the tt leads and the same sound stayed right.  So it has to be the Linto I think. As for the anti-skate, I checked the tonearm leads and the cue and I didn't see anything.  I ordered a cheap $129 Pro-Ject MM/MC p...
Interesting observations
Seems to me that from an "engineering standpoint", if your first cable didn't work at all and the new one worked, the first one was broken.  Even the cheapest cable, if functioning properly, should allow the components to work together electricall...
Upgrading my system
The fact that you're saying the sound is "nice" is a good start.  Perhaps you should consider putting some resources into maxing out what you have, such as cables or platforms.  Many would argue against this and there are many who would agree, but...
MIT Oracle V4 Speaker Cables Help
I would run this by Joe Abrams, who sells a lot of MIT on this site.  Yes, he is a dealer and he may tell you that the newer MIT cables he is selling are far better than the older V4, but at least you will have another opinion.  Then again, he may...
RCA interconnect recommendation
I find it a bit odd that someone who owns Weiss and EAR has no idea about interconnects, because they're pretty sophisticated components.  But if you never fooled around with cables, I suggest you buy a couple of pairs of ICs from Blue Jeans for a...
