Harbeth - Compact 7 ES-2 used OR P3-ESR new ? I saw your thread on the user forum. I wasn't surprised Alan pushed the new 3's, he being the supreme marketer. If I remember right he earlier chose an older version of the 5's over the newer 7's, due to woofer size.My contention was that a small s...
Harbeth - Compact 7 ES-2 used OR P3-ESR new ? I agree. The new P3's can produce great bass and volume, for their size. They're meant for small rooms. The 7's can fill a bigger room and go lower. There's no arguing with it. Alan Shaw explains this in great length( as is his usual) on the user ...
Vandersteen vs. JBL rock music etc. The vandys can boogie, no worries there. Look at the long thread going which I added to yesterday after just hearing Vandersteen 2ce sigs for the first time in years. I still can't get over the sound quality for the money. There are many many spea...
Comments on Tannoy Kensington SE - Room size I'd love to hear a pair, but no where, absolutely no where remotely close to me to hear them. They are huge in Japan, and you see photos of the biggest Westminsters in tiny rooms, cabinets wall to wall, with the amp dwarfed in the middle.I would s...
$ 2500 ....Stay with Vandersteens ??...what else ? Years ago a shop near me carried Vandersteens, and while they were okay, I never regarded them as anything special-these were the 1b's and 2's. I carried this assumption with me for over 20 years.Well, today, after hearing the newest versions of b...
Luxman L505u . . . why not? Yes, I've got my eye on it...that was one of his preliminary reports...full review to be coming, hopefully soon. It is on onahighergrounds site, so should be available. Thanks! The Luxman is still very much on my list. Same with Leben, and Lavardin.
Skylan stand tweeks Did Noel fill you in on the amount? He told me to fill em up if using rice. There's a thread on Speaker Asylum with he and his friend Moray experimenting with different fill levels and mixtures.Sometime when I'm energetic I may try kitty litter.
Skylan stand tweeks Thanks,Chayro! Yes, maybe a tad muddy...good,though, or decent. Could it be the rice? I'd hate to dump it all out and start over with kitty litter. I did have some all metal stands to use for a while, which is what I've always been used to for a s...
Skylan stand tweeks Great. I'm ordering today....I like the idea of using 3 vs 4, makes it easier to keep level.
Coincident speakers Thanks.I've put the Coincidents on my short list to hear.
Skylan stand tweeks Thanks. So then Thorman, are you using 4 per plate or 3? I've heard good things about Herbies, plus his prices are very reasonable.
"Get Better Sound" It solved my friend's bass dilema--the couch incident. So yes, it's a good reminder for proper setup. And, it's a great primer for beginners. Although, when you see some photos on here by "experienced" hobbyists of their systems poorly setup, you'd...
Coincident speakers Thanks, Jax2, I appreciate that. How far away from your speakers do you sit? I'm usually at about 8-10'. I don't mind a forward or recessed soundstage, but I don't like it in my lap. A friend has some big dunlavys set up where he has to sit fairly...
Luxman L505u . . . why not? Bongo, could it also be you'd have to pay retail for the Leben? Could you elaborate on the "compact design"? The Luxmans look big (and heavy) from photos, the Leben, which I've actually seen and heard, much smaller and lighter. |
