Streaming vs Physical Media Granted, that was back in 2005, but it's still relevant today. All the best Nonoise Yep! The fundamental and foundational findings are always relevant. Charles
First Watt F8, passive preamp, DAC As I type I am running the same DAC with the volume at about 1:00 (so roughly 1.0V output?) into my preamp at 14db gain into the SIT-3 with 11.5 db of gain. 1V output with 25.5db of gain is plenty on my 94db speakers. I typically listen around ...
New Coincident Frankenstein 300B Stereo Version To think of it this way, if I do change my speakers in the future, the Pass XA30.8 can still drive any reasonable efficient speakers. The Franks won’t. True. The Pass XA 30.8 clearly has more universal application with a larger pool of speakers...
First Watt F8, passive preamp, DAC 1 Speakers are 91 db sensitivity. 2 Amplifier has 15 db of gain. 3 No use of an active preamp. 4 Desire to use DAC with volume control direct to amp. 5 Definitely a high voltage output DAC is required. With this scenario probably at least 4 to...
First Watt F8, passive preamp, DAC 1.44v is pretty low. Most DACs output 2v and higher. With that low voltage coupled with a low gain amplifier, unless your speakers are high sensitivity, you’ll likely need an active preamp to provide additional gain. Charles
First Watt F8, passive preamp, DAC The DAC output is 100 ohm unbalanced, 200 ohm balanced. I guess that's pretty good. Those specifications (In ohms) are referring to the output impedance. What is the output "voltage" of your DAC?
New Coincident Frankenstein 300B Stereo Version @thaluza Don’t mean to derail the thread, sorry. Not a chance. This is what these open forums are supposed to provide, different members sharing their varied experiences. This is why I asked the OP about room/music volume and genres as they...
New Coincident Frankenstein 300B Stereo Version @thaluza Do you alternate your Frankenstein and Atma-Sphere M-60s on your Von Schweikert speakers? Charles
New Coincident Frankenstein 300B Stereo Version @sim_audio_nerd Where are you with respect to room size, listening levels and music genres? Charles
Streaming vs Physical Media Fidelizer is a manufacturer of very good quality products. I have no experience with the featured Airstream Wi-Fi product. I do however use their Nikola 2 linear power supply with my Pro-Ject RS2T CD transport and it is a fantastic pairing. I'm ...
New Coincident Frankenstein 300B Stereo Version I use Zu Soul Supremes and I doubt that I am even using 1W. YEP! And very often well under 1 watt of power. My typical listening levels are C-weighted SPL of 65-75 db with occasional peaks to mid 80s. In reality (Seated 10 feet from my 94 db se...
Streaming vs Physical Media @jji666 As I originally mentioned, I'm adding balance. I have zero issue with your intention to add as you put it balance to this discussion. I suspect that most following this thread feel the same. I've inquired several time out of genuine ...
New Coincident Frankenstein 300B Stereo Version @tswisla What speakers are you using and room size? I have a finished space in my basement that's roughly 14 x 27 with an 8 foot ceiling. No problems at all. Charles
New Coincident Frankenstein 300B Stereo Version @tswisla Well said. To my ears, the Frankensteins are sublime and as much as I love the XA, I could never give up my Frankensteins for it and I can’t justify having both. Exactly why I chose the word sublime to describe the overall effect an...
New Coincident Frankenstein 300B Stereo Version Loose base is good Definitely no loose bass with the Coincident Frankenstein amplifiers. Far from that. Or by “base” is something else being referenced? Charles |
