How to meaningfully audition speakers??
Bo,It's clear that sound stage dimensions and presentation are of highest priority for you (we all have our preferences for what defines a successful component). You refer often to sound stage width and depth. What degree of importance do you plac...
300B or 2A3?
Fla,I don't want to interfere with Hueyoz's thread. I compared the two tubes in depth on my system page within the last month or two. I'd prefer to address this topic over there.
Music: Notes Or Sounds ?
I've for a long time judge the worthiness of a component or audio system by its ability or failure to communicate the intrinsic emotion and beauty of music. Without this emotional connection why would you bother to listen? Otherwise it's just ster...
Calling all Horn lovers
I don't currently have horn speakers in my system but I agree with the comments made so far. When 'done right' a horn can be very realistic and natural. A poorly executed horn speaker can sound disappointing. I love the fact that they allow the us...
300B or 2A3?
Hi Onemug,To clarify, 8 watts from a 2A3 amplifer would have to be a PSET (Parallel single ended triode). A single output tube per channel 2A3 is as you said 3-4 watts. With 98 db sensitive/ 8 ohm speakers for much of the time you're only using "f...
300B or 2A3?
This is one of those questions that just has no single answer. Why? It depends on numerous variables. Within both amp types there's a wide range in price, built and sound quality. Then there's a wide range of the individual output tube itself (a S...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
Grannyring is right, he recommended I try them in my Yamamoto YDA-01 DAC(the output capacitors). The sound went from already very good to genuinely superb! I 've no desire to replace it with anything else. I can't imagine any audio component not i...

"Turntable"Not that simple, I've heard my share of edgy, thin and bright cartridges. All analogue front ends aren't good sounding either, they need good prep and thought same as digital.
How to meaningfully audition speakers??
"The most accurate speakers I know of are also easy to listen to"Kiddman, so very true. You are right that the term accurate has been bastardized and seems to be used when clinical and analytical are the more appropriate words. We both probably pr...
Amplifier, less than 10 Watts, for PHY speakers
160562,Thanks, that price limit rules out most of the amplifiers I had listed. The Sophia Baby and Decware are still viable choices however.
$9000 speaker Orangutan or speaker + amplifier
Essrand,Congratulations on your Coincident Dragon mono blocks! I believe that they'll keep you very happy and enhance your system for much long term enjoyment. Charles,

Hello Tomcy6, I know in the current audiophile vernacular analytical is synonymous with accurate, (personally this has never made sense to me). I just wanted to clarify that's what Koenigr2 meant (I didn't want to make a wrong assumption that's al...
Amplifier, less than 10 Watts, for PHY speakers
Yes,I'd definitely consider a Yamamoto SET amplifier. Do you have a price limit? Are you using the 30 cm (12") Phy driver? Coincident, ,Wavelength, Audion, Melody, Magnetic Line, Art Audio etc. There are quite a few choices for you.

Hi Koenigr,I in no way intend to offend or pick a fight but just seeking an understanding of what you mean. You say your sound is accurate but dry and un involving. Music is anything but what you describe, so what is meant by accurate, and what is...
