Debating between Hybrid and Tube Integrated Amp
Ronrags,That's quite an endorsement for the Primaluna amplifier when one considers the well regarded SS amplifiers you've used. It doesn't surprise me that you'd find it more musical and natural. These qualities do make listening to music more inv...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
Tbg,Coming from you that's quite a statement as I know how much you enjoy your BMC phono- analog set up. As I've said before, both mediums can be splendid and both can be uninspiring. Charles,
Preamp for Aesthetix / Atma-sphere
I agree with Albert and Rushton, try a high quality tube line stage. I believe that this is the path to the realism and natural sound you're seeking. The two models suggested should be excellent in your current system. Best of luck.Charles,
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
Bill,That was funny and people crack me up when they resort to that phrase. These latest Jupiter capacitors could be fabulous and some may prefer them to the Duelund CAST. But "broken" is too much hyperbole for me. How about saying another superb ...
300B or EL34 is a better well rounded amplifier
Schubert, good point, I still have an el34 PP amp and It does sound good. It`s just with direct comparison that the differences become apparent in favor of the 300b SET. I can still enjoy music with the eL34 amplifier.
300B or EL34 is a better well rounded amplifier
Well there is no correct answer to a question like this, just too many variables in play. I would prefer an excellently implemented el34 amp over a run of the mill built 300b. All I can offer is this, if both are designed and executed to a high le...
Coincident Linestage vs CJ CT5 or Allnic L-3000
Hi Drdavid,I haven't ordered mine yet but certainly will get to doing so. I'm so content with my current sound that I've just been sitting around listening to music and not tinkering/ changing anything in recent months. Charles,
Pass Labs XP-20 or Audio Research Ref 3?
Bo,I think your style of communication irks some people but I believe that your passion and interest are sincere. Your audio tastes are very different from mine but many roads lead to Rome(which is the beauty of this hobby). I wish you success wit...
Upping my digital game
Lewinskih01,Nice well reasoned post with many good points. Agree on Hi Rez, often more marketing hype than genuine sonic improvement(there are some exceptions).Charles,
Debating between Hybrid and Tube Integrated Amp
He has stated he has heard his speakers with this tube amplifier.
Debating between Hybrid and Tube Integrated Amp
I got my first tube amplifier when my two children were 2 and 4 years old (they're 24 and 26 now) and had no problems. They were firmly told to not touch/ bother and they didn't. You say you "absolutely love the sound" with the tubes driving your ...
Older man's voice that got me onto chills...
Billy Eckstine is one of the very best vocalist regardless of era. His late 1950s recording "Imagination" is one that I've own for years and still listen to very often. He's unbelievably under appreciated. Charles,
New Lampizator Level 4/ Version 4 DAC in the house
I often listen to Jwm's Big L5 Lampizator which goes through his Absolare Passion linestage and it's truly superb. I've heard no direct DAC- amplifier that would come close. Excellent active line stages are indispensable for superior sound in my o...
Femto clocks ,every unit should have one
Geoffkait,Happy to say this hasn't been my experience with redbook CDs . Perhaps it's music genre dependant, vast majority of mine are jazz and they sound wonderful in my system. So it appears YMMV.Charles,
Femto clocks ,every unit should have one
Wisnon,I really appreciate your thoughts and perspectives. I have no doubt that jitter has some meaningful effect on performance. It seems however it has become the accepted buzz word and has succumbed to marketing manipulation as the most (only) ...
