Sota or Technics ... amazing dynamics. Its warm and revealing. I think this is all a cartridge characteristics, not a turntable characteristics. It’s hard to understand when terms like dynamics and warmth used to describe a sound of turntable (drive type or plinth...
LYRA DELOS CARTRIDGE TOO BRIGHT, THIN AND SHRILL SOUNDING Then buy "what you can actually buy". I bought all the cartridges online, not only those I have mentioned (they are easy to find), but even much more rare ones for my collection of the best cartridges. You don’t know that JICO made styli for disc...
Refurbish Fidelity Research Tonearms Not the right thread to talk about EPA or Reed design. I just tried to say that Ruby Ball Bearings is the whole different concept and it has nothing to do with FR 64s. Those arm are completely different, but both can be used with MM or MC, technic...
LYRA DELOS CARTRIDGE TOO BRIGHT, THIN AND SHRILL SOUNDING What $500 MM cartridges? The question addressed to another person, but in my opinion there are many. Those moving magnet carts in NOS condition with genuine Stereohedron styli are not even the top models, but they are better than many MC cartridges...

Sota or Technics The "sound of a turntable" is the sound of a cartridge (first). Owned SP-10 mk2, SP-20, modified SL1200mkII (for over 25 years) and big collection of cartridges and tonearms, I still have no idea what is the sound of the drive itself. Each time I ...

Next step in Turntable The problem with @mijostyn is that he never tried the AT-616. Here is the image of my AT-616 in my system (under Tannoy). This is another set of AT under my ex SP-10mk2.4 x AT616 designed for up to 132 lbs weight (60kg). The problem with Solid Te...
two problems with turntable THIS LP is perfect for antiskating adjustment and everything else including tonearm/cartridge resonance test.
Next step in Turntable @mijostyn If it does not bounce between 1 and 3 Hz it is not isolated and the amount of noise passed on by the environment is easy to see. Hook the output of your phono stage to an oscilloscope and put your stylus down on a record with the turntab...
Tonearm and Anti Skate Question I might just try leaving out the anti-skate weight for now. I’m more concerned about putting too much pressure on one side of the record groove and causes damage, if I don’t set the anti-skate.With your tonearm you might need a bit of antiskating,...
two problems with turntable Antiskating = VTF This is oldschool rule and it’s valid for conical or elliptical styli only. With advanced stylus profile it must be ~ 50% of the VTF. You can adjust it with Hi-Fi News LP (test record).
Tonearm and Anti Skate Question You can always try Hi-Hi News TEST LP if you want to set up antiskating. In your situation it’s probably better to use zero antiskating than too much antiskating.
Benz Micro REF Original wood body cartridge serial number 6935 You can send your cartridges for inspection to SoundSmith or someone else, it will cost $30-60 and they will give you all info about condition of the stylus and suspension. Then you can sell with confidence (even with test results).
Complimentary 2nd Cartridge/Tonearm for Dr. Feickert Blackbird Schick “12 inch designed for SPU (~32g with its shell) and Denon 103 series.
