is ayre qb-9 dac better than cx7e mp? I have heard both in the same system and the QB-9 wasn't even close. The Cx7eMP was noticebly better. The QB9's biggest weakness was the lack of dynamics and slam. Very uninvolving compared to the CD player.
Help me start off right in the reel to reel realm Don't laugh but a year ago I started my quest into reel to reel. I found two people who actually had working ones they were willing to donate to me (I took the Teac X1000R from an audiophile buddy but could have had a working Akai fom a non-auioph...
Write a Book Dummies There is a "Home Theater For Dummies" but I was looking for something on surround sound.
Another speaker placement question. HELP Yep-speakers are way to big. You may be able to "cheat" the room by putting the speakers on the half wall. The gear between the speakers doesn't help, either. How about investing in a Behringer Digital EQ (if you're on Long Island, NY, I will lend...
Room treatment success story It should also depends on the type of speakers you have in the room. I don't think it's necessarilly the room we are treating, but the rooms response to sound coming from your speakers. The radiating pattern of the speakers, first reflections, etc...
Who is using passive preamps and why? I think the key advntage of a passive (in the right system) over an active is it's not changing/distorting the signal.
Who is using passive preamps and why? Pubul57, I don't have any direct experience with attenuators (though have done quite a bit of research on them). I have a long tome audiophile friend who has helped me for many years suggesting and auditioning gear. We have listened to alot of mus...
your impression on esoteric sa-50 Oppo over Esoteric? Kidding, right? The Esoteric relays the very fabric of an instrument; the timber of the violin; differences between nylon and steel strings; the breath of a vocalist; pinpoint imaging and lifelike sounstadging. An oppo??? One d...
Who is using passive preamps and why? I have friends who have been using attenuators since the 80s, and will never go back to an active preamp-and they have access to mega buck gear. I just bypassed my preamp with my cd player and will (probably)never add a preamp again. System synerg...
CD recorders with hard disk I love my Alesis Masterlink and it is in your budget but only 40 gig drive. I use it to burn compilation CD's. Music played off the HD sounds awesome. You can hack it and put in a larger hard drive, instructions on line but not sure of the max HD ...
Amp match for B&W 685s I have the 685's with the Cayin A50T and am very impressed with the sound. Not enough power for Triod mode (to drive the speakers due to sensitivity) but it really sings in Ultra Linear mode. Pretty sweet rig for the price.
Quick poll: Listening at night, lights ON or OFF ? small candle so I can find my wine glass.
Another Bi-Amp Question Thanks. I do already have the cables. Just didn't want to fry the speaker. Thanks, everybody.
Another Bi-Amp Question Thank you, Almarg. As always, appreciate your your input.
Another Bi-Amp Question I don't need to increase volume output, nor was I aksing if hey would play louder. As I said, system sounds great. Advantage of biamping isn't necessarilly to play louder. If I wanted louder, I would get more effecient speakers and larger amps - a... |
