Any insight with the Berkeley Alpha DAC ..??
Thanks, Richard. I was eyeing a transporter or the Berkeley. I did put a Monarchy dip upsampler after the squeezebox, which gave the Berkeley a 96k upsampled signal. VERY nice improvement. (I also have the CI power supply, Revelation audio embilic...
usb dac for hi-end system
No offense taken, Ghasley. I had meant the music data was packeted via USB. It is not packeted via firewire.
usb dac for hi-end system
Your gear is state of the art. You will only be dissapointed with USB-even through the wavelength as suggested into your DAC. Asychroneous or not, usb transmits in packets-music should be a stream. If you get a mac, put it in the next room and get...
I need guidance :-
You don't need loud power-you need clean, non-distorting power. Nice, high, effecient, clean power.I have a NAD T775 for my 5.1 rig and it kicks butt (ask the neighbors-kidding-firewalls).
small room questions
You can get awesome sound in a small room. I would keep the sub out til you get a reference. I know its hard to not use gear you paid for but you really should listen without it first. Play around with speaker poasitioning ALOT when (if) you bring...
Any insight with the Berkeley Alpha DAC ..??
I just picked one up recently (I kind of followed your recommendation, Richard) and am absolutely thrilled. Totally agree on cables and PC and I just started putting my SB3 into a Monarchy DIP upsampler and it definatley has equaled my Esoteric X0...
Neophyte question about DAC's...
Internet Radio is of a very low quality, equivilent to an MP3. I would not suggest investing alot of money into a dac solely for this purpose.
no synergy
Can't you get the speakers back and just change the wife?
How does the Bryston BDA-1 DAC sound?
I just upgraded from a Benchmark to a Berkeley and can finally say my Squeezebox (w/Berkeley) finally sounds as good as my Esoteric X03SE - different, but just as good, finally. The Berkeley is am amazing dac. Solidly wide soundstage, incredible r...
The CD player is dead.......
I remember one day in the 1980's, I walked into a local record store and saw some computer softwear on display. I thought, hey, what's a record store doing selling softwear? Looked into it and learned that those CD's was music intended to replace ...
Who has found happiness giving up cd player?
I love the convenience of my squeezebox (just got the Berkeley DAC) and I also love my CD/SACD player. The server sounds pretty darn good and hours of uninterupted music is awesome. BIG plus is hearing those tracks that you either never played, or...
best AVR for dual use in HT/music?
Realremo, Glad your music is sounding sooo good. As for the NAD, I've had nothing but pleasure from my T775. All the forums I followed before purchasing the NAD said great things about it and my dealer (who I love and trust for over 10 years) high...
best AVR for dual use in HT/music?
You must check out the higher end NAD's. I had a Sony ES, Pioneer Elite and now NAD T775 and the NAD blows everything else away. CLEAN, resolving, extended sound, wonderful soundstage and no video circuitry except passing through what you have. No...
When does analog compete with digital?
I think they are less than optimally set up because they take a bit of effort, knowledge, tools and investment (accurate scale, strobe) and the average user doesn't understand what's involved with acquiring the best sound from a vinyl rig, or how ...
When does analog compete with digital?
I think one of the things that was missed here is why so many (non-audiophiles, mostly) people believe CD's sound better than vinyl. The lack of surface sound, ticks, pops mislead most in thinking CD's are better (more dynamic, quieter). Now, when...
