VTL Stereo 75, 85, or Tiny Triodes vs. 300B SET I can speak to the Tiny Triodes. Considered by many VTL afficionados as the best sounding VTL amp ever built. They are very quick, do vocals with great detail and accuracy and repproduce bass well if not with great heft. I ran them with Coincident...
The frontier between ''vintage'' and ''junk'' ? In the Realm of Audiophiledom, I believe the proper usage should be when referencing a piece that even by today's standards would be viable. Rogers LS3/5A speakers are vintage and quite viable. GAS Grandson amplifiers drive as well and better toda...
Speakers For A Mini System I just set up a system with Arcam Mini Solo and Usher 520 minitors and was shocked at how good it sounded. Dynamic, with respectable detail and bass on 24" massed stands. Acoustic piano, voice and acoustic bass were all very decent.
Budget single disc player-under $600 The Marantz is pretty well built and sound very decent. I sent one to a friend and he loves it. Now it's mated with a Scott Nixon Chibi DAC and really sings, so it works well as a transport too.
Outstanding Recordings Of Redbook CD's Sorry, that is:albumcredits.com/pro/bernie.grundman
Outstanding Recordings Of Redbook CD's Of course there is the "Albums to Die For" list. That's easy enough. Another approach is to follow mastering. My ears tell me the best in the field is Bernie Grundman. I just like his sound when he is handed an excellent master to work with. I've ...
Best sound in old late 70s early 80s receivers I owned several. THE choice of all was/is the Luxman 1020A. The large Yamahas and Sansuis were also great. But for tonality, raw power and a tuner section that ranks among the best dedicated tuners.....it's the Luxman. Only drawback is the push pi...
Parasound C/BD BELT Drive CD transport I have owned this table (C/BD 2000) in a highly modified version. The stock is great and the modified if done correctly is nearly unbeatable. Very analogue sounding. Mine had difficulty with CD-R playback. The individual I sold it to does not expe...
Is Speaker Termination Required? He's right. I clipped my highend connectors off my LAT International cables and they sounded much better.
DIY project speakers When I used to upgrade several pairs of speakers my pick was Audioquest Type 6 as it was reasonable in cost, very good, pliable and small enough diameter to push through any board holes for soldering.Try to avoid using the solder/push-clips as the...
Amplifier voltage conversion I would purchase in Europe and make sure the product switched to 120/60Hz for use in the U.S. I've taken product to Europe and purchased a down converter for smaller electronics. It worked fine, but they were not upper end electronics. I took a Pr...
I want a warmer high end Jax2 is correct. So many factors. A real cheap fix could be a wool surround around the tweeter which sill dampen cabinet refraction. Amp/cables/wall material/wall treatment. It goes on and on......
Help with speaker choice I would first borrow a much better and more powerful amplifier to demo the Hawks before I dumped them. You could find more extension at both ends (the air you seek for the highs). Totem makes a very good product and tends to showcase whatever impr...
