Speaker Stands Filled With Kitty Litter? TRUE???
jax2 has very good information.  Kitty litter has been used by some for decades, but it lacks the mass most seek.  Play sand is great and cheap.  Both dampen the ringing effect of sound waves striking metal stands.I always used lead shot (with glo...
Active or passive?
It's a cultural thing.  American consumers of high end audio simply do not choose active systems.  75% of all Mercedes-Benz autos sold in the world are diesel.  0% are sold in America.  The American consumer for whatever reasons chooses otherwise....
New tube preamp
Several have recommended de Havilland as I listen to my Mercury 3 from Kara.  Terrific stuff!  Her preamp replaced my Manley Neo-Classic 300B with Taketsuki tubes, no slouch.  I recently reviewed it here, gave my impressions of the preamp and list...
Can I cheat and not get caught?
What’s wrong with bare wire?  Had some LAT International banana terminated wire.  Banana broke, so I clipped and stripped all ends.  Wire sounded way better bare.
Which Preamp Would You Choose?
Sonic Frontiers!  Parts quality, topography and design are superior.  Let’s make this easy.  A $600 difference for what would serve you better spread over say a five year usage translates to $120/yr. or $3/day.  Really?!  Go forth grasshopper.
Tube Amps With Good Bass Qualities
Manley Mahi Mahi mono blocks.  These are scary good providing a solid foundation for bass.  They are very quick with EL 84 tubes and get the midrange right.  These blast away so many stereotypes falsely attributed to tube amplification.

Nothing makes Germans happier than seizing territory.  I worked in German speaking countries as an importer and they should do a fine job.  The German business acumen is mostly quite good.  I hope they do well.
Upgrading Tube Preamp from Audio Research LS-7 - Recommendations for better soundstage?
+1 de Havilland UltraVerve 3.  I’m listening right now to my de Havilland Mercury 3.  See my review posted today of the Mercury 3 which is just the Big Brother to the UltraVerve 3.I’m sure they share sonic characteristics.
Which Int. Amp with passive ATC SCM40
Agree these speakers and the room are not a match made in heaven.  Consider a direction change.  ATC SCM20ASL Pro mk2 6.5" Powered Studio Monitors.  250W woofer, 50W tweeter.Smaller physical size, no need for amplifier and these will rock.  I own ...
Need some guidance with music server and cd ripping.
Went through all of this 3 years ago with many of the same questions and confusion.  The aforementioned Bluesound is valid.  I’ve a friend who has been running one for 3 years without issue.I went with a Naim UnitiServe and did not look back.  One...
I need a DAC...
https://www.sugdenaudio.com/dac-4-digital-to-analogue-converterOne would surmise DACs do not have more than one optical input as that type of input is not recognized as reference.
Go Active Crossover or Upgrade existing XOs?
I might add that my ATC 40 actives came by way of a shop I've worked with for years.  I agreed to leave the speakers in the shop set up for two months before taking possession so that they could expose clientele to them and possibly pick up the li...
Go Active Crossover or Upgrade existing XOs?
It's an interesting game.  But I'll bet most arguing about this do not live with fully active monitors or floor standers with a serious front end.Well done fully active is plainly scary in its immediacy, impact and timbre.  I do run active with AT...

Diving into the world of tubes...help needed!
veerossiYou did well with Line Magnetic.  Notice, I posted ‘cheap Chinese’ which excludes better quality such as your choice.....and not cheap.
