DAC-Preamp having these specifications?
@georgehifi I looked at the owners manual after posting. I think you are correct about the digital domain volume control. Here is what their manual says:“HGC is Benchmark's unique Hybrid Gain Control system. The DAC3 combines active analog gain co...
DAC-Preamp having these specifications?
@georgehifi If a DAC-preamp manufacturer uses only an analog volume pot, then can one assume the digital domain is set for 100% output, thereby ensuring no bit-stripping arises? I’m thinking here of the Benchmark DAC3.
DAC-Preamp having these specifications?
@georgehifi I thought I deleted my errant post regarding my misread of your suggested “1000-Ohms”. I read your post again and realized you wrote “100Ohms” rather than “1000Ohms”. My bad. The ATC (analog) preamps have a rated output impedance of 10...
Oppo 205 modification
@tuffy72561, nice summary, including your install of your parallel run of Teo Audio Ultras in your system.
DAC-Preamp having these specifications?
Just for grins, I pulled out of storage my CAL Delta transport, Sonic Frontiers Ultra Jitterbug (reclocks transport signal to <40ps jitter) and Theta DS Pro Basic IIIA (interlinked via Canare AES/EBU 110-Ohm digital IC’s) and ran it head to hea...

@1graber2 the BC 3.7 checks all the boxes except price. It seems $2k higher than what I’m interested in spending.
Foil damping tape as a tonearm tube wrap?
3M 434 is barely temperature optimal for home environments, having an upper working temp of 20C. Trust me, I checked all of 3M foils for their specifications. 3M 2552 is more effective across a larger, more relevant temperature range normally enco...
Looking For 90% of the performane of the super expensive cables for much less money
I disagree with @geoffkait. Quantum dots are full of gaps. To paraphrase Gordon:“The point is, ladies and gentleman, that gaps -- for lack of a better word -- are good.“Gaps are right.“Gaps work.“Gaps clarify, cut through, and capture the essence ...
Oppo 105 D vs. DAC-transport combination.
@geoffkait +1, regarding CD dynamic range compression. That robbed much of the life of CD playback.
Foil damping tape as a tonearm tube wrap?
Ugh....Sigh....I will repeat this just once more: I haven’t tried this method of tonearm damping. I posted a private message from one member named @nationalbar who swears by the method using his tonearm, headshell and cartridge setup.
Oppo 105 D vs. DAC-transport combination.
Let's not rehash that debate. 😂

It’s generally applicable to any cable. Review the threads.

For IC’s running between sources and your preamp, try doing the Schroeder Method of parallel assembly. Check at least 3 cable threads for details.
Who makes the highest quality tube amps?
I own Dyna. I go with Dyna. So did old man Johnson of ARC, who copied Dyna. (RIP) And others.
