Why so expensive??
I've had 2 mfgr's say they charge outrageous prices because people will pay it. One said he was charging double what he considered a fair price. If he sold for 1/2 his current price people would not take his product seriously. Why sell 100 of somet...
Why are hi-end active monitors not more popular?
AGGHHHHHHH!!!Anyhow this is why:1) You need a wall outlet for each speaker - any active speaker.2) As someone mentioned I think, most are voiced to be listened to in the direct field as near or close-field monitors. I do not know how much the desi...
Why are hi-end active monitors not more popular?
Would a $20,000 ATC active 100 system be considered "good"?
Why are hi-end active monitors not more popular?
Good concept / bad implementation is the usual problem.
Materialism or Idealism is hope alive? And Request
Does materialism bring lasting happiness? If so, go for it.But if it's like being a kid who gets sick of his Christmas toy the next week, why bother? In that scenario, you need to keep buying more and more to feed the addiction. To keep the high g...
$40.000 speaker advise. Check out my list
Antares: very nice, natural sound. Would be my first choice as sound is a safe bet if buying unheard as it's not too warm, bright, analytical, etc. Just well balanced and good for a large room.Verity also nice but too much bass in the Parsifals un...
Midrange Better Than Harbeth or Spendor?
Also Quads and Sound labs."Single driver.......Which would you recommend that can match or surpass the clean and refined sound of the Harbeths or Spendors?"
Midrange Better Than Harbeth or Spendor?
You could try www.carolinaaudio.com for the Jordan drivers although I have not heard them.I don't think a single driver can usually match a multi-way in this respect since multi way puts the driver only in its most efficient frequency of operation...
Monitor SPL vs. Full-Range SPL
Shadorne, that is interesting. The experts say SPL is what damages the ears but I agree more with what you are saying. From what I remember, the experts say all that bass you hear thumping in cars will damage your ears. But I think the serious fla...
BEST LOW VOLUME FULL RANGE SPEAKERS?
Honest1, yes single drivers but also speakers like the Andra I which ran the midrange with no x-over. Also active speakers are a big step up in absolute sound quality (at least theoretically, whether you like the end result is another thing) since...
Midrange Better Than Harbeth or Spendor?
In their literature, Harbeth describes their speakers as "Fast, clear, precise, .... big rich sound with incredible ease and detail...dramatic improvement in clarity of sound".I agree completely however I do not think they are telling the whole tr...
Midrange Better Than Harbeth or Spendor?
"A lot of dynamic speakers fall short in this area (to my ears) with buzzy, digital-sounding vocals even though they sound fine otherwise."Harbeth sounds like that. One of the worst speakers I ever heard. Jumbled, incoherent, just sounds coming ou...

Monitor SPL vs. Full-Range SPL
Thanks Acoustat6 for getting what I was trying to say. Here's another novel thought.I am thinking people have a "reference" volume level which is set at the ear's most sensitive frequency. This is ~3,000 hz I think and is the x-over point for many...
BEST LOW VOLUME FULL RANGE SPEAKERS?
Graphic equalizers are bad, sure. But have any of you guys thought about the x-overs in your speakers? They're doing damage too. And worse too since they come after the power amp.
