Which worse- long I/C of speaker run
Thanks for the responses. I have been out of town. It sounds like long I/C runs can't hurt. I would stay away from shielding speaker cable and have heard the higher capacitance can ruin a power amp.For other good speaker cables, Nordost and Analys...
Nautilus owners upgrade to what?
You are BAD Kthomas, bad I say. :-).I think I can resist the call of the 802 for now. At least while I keeping busy auditioning speakers.psjulian got me thinking about sound anchors. I've got some massive 30-40# 1" thick steel blocks. Maybe I coul...
Nautilus owners upgrade to what?
Thanks all for the input. That's interesting about the high markup on B&W. So overall it sounds like my 804's are a pretty good product.I will try some of your suggestions -Karma and Audio Physics, Revels, and ProAc Futures maybe. I also found...
Your Perfect Office System?
Another cheap solution is to get a portable CDP which also has a tuner. Walmart sells them for $80-150. I like Panasonic the best. Sony is not recommended. Many now have a tiny remote as well. Then get some self powered speakers like these Swan Div...
Mini-systems
That JVC above looks NICE. But every JVC I've heard in the stores lately sound awful.Yamaha sounded the best with the bigger piano black speakers. Panasonic for the cheaper models. Denon is okay with the bigger M30 or M50 speakers.
Your Perfect Office System?
Yamaha mini system - Black piano speaker model sounds nicest for $300-$500. Try Goodguys.com or your local Best Buys.I choose this over Denon/Mission, Onkyo/Polk, JVC, Sony, Teac. But I think some Panasonic mini's sounded acceptable -also low thef...
Some thoughts about value in high-end audio
High end audio can be considered a luxury item. For some, it would be a $30,000 yacht - because that is their passion. For us, it's stereo equipment. So we get into a luxury item which we are passionate about.Because the mag's base their hearing o...
Best Inexpensive Tuner?
Try the T2 for $299 from:http:/www.antennaperformance.comI don't think this is the Yamaha people mentioned above. I'd like to know where you could buy that one.
Levinson or Krell
I have'nt heard the Krell 350's but as a general rule Krell's don't seem to be as musical and can be fatiguing over time. However these differences are small and may not bother your ears. Also try out the Proceed which is a cheaper version of Levin...
How to clean RCA inputs and outputs?
I like Caig ProGold from www.audioadvisor.com. Not only does it clean the contacts, it leaves a thin protective coating.
Professional vs. Consumer speakers
Have you listened to ATC active 100's? Still not quite as dynamic as live but the sound was very clean. Maybe the lack of odd-order harmonics that are designed out of the drivers or the active coupling to the driver.By "harshness" I was talking ab...
Professional vs. Consumer speakers
Thank you for the varied responses. It looks like this is not as simple as I'd hoped. So the near-field monitors are out. Maybe main monitors would be okay. It is hard to find these kind of speakers to audition.I have read J. Gordon Holt's reviews...
Are active speakers the best upgrade
First, thanks to the people here, I found out about ATC.Many things were impressive. I don't listen to $15,000 speakers much so everything impresses me (not Wilson's) compared to what I own (Nautilus):- I could hear 4-5 layers of tonality change a...
Speaker placement formula
http://www.reflexlabs.com/page728283.htmThe cost is $50.00There is also a company in NH who sells it for $50 plus $6.00 shipping - this was in the latest Audio Critic or Audio Xpress - can't remember
B&W 804 Nautilus help
The 150 wpc A300 is $1,600. If you go seprarates MF is $3,200 new. I would agree that McIntosh is warmer still. I found Krell harsh and fatiguing (over listening over time), Bryston bright, and Krell, Bryston, Sim all had mid-bass bloat that was r...
