The Most Philosophical Song You Ever Heard
The Games People Play by Joe South. A vastly underated lyric. Here's a great rendition by Lucinda Williams.
New Order fans?
@larsman, Me too. For me the Joy Division / New Order is a bit like the The Beatles / solo years. Whichever way I look at it, it’s a bit of a come down.   Temptation was a great single though. The falling out between Hooky and Barney, not so...
How do you decide what your next upgrade will be?
When it comes to upgrades, apart from seeking out the best possible mastering, it's always loudspeakers for me.   For sure, as I get older/lazier/busier/less obsessed etc I'm looking for an easier life and may want to add streaming/ Bluetooth opt...
What's Going On?
Assuming athletes are tested regularly it’s unlikely to be due to excessive weed smoking. It’s not the weather either since global warming is a myth and climate change is usually called the weather. It can’t be age related. Or fitness related. ...
What's your favorite lyric from a song?
Are You Lonesome Tonight originally written by Roy Turk and Lou Handman in 1926 became through Presley's rendition a good an illustration of a soul in trouble as anything else we have seen ------ I wonder if you're lonesome tonight You know some...
$39K for the Linn Klimax DAC/streamer?
Linn have been following the same marketing strategy since the early 1970s.   It's just now they're targeting the so-called 'ascendant class' that the socialist (Ha!) Joe Biden seems to be assisting.   Clever strategical move on Linn's part, n...
RIP Graeme Edge
Graham Edge reminds me of Ringo and especially Charlie Watts. Often easy to overlook, but without them, everything changes.   Here's Graham in happier times, doing a 'Ringo'.
Adding a “safe haven” forum for discussion of tweaks?
@tommylion  'Posts that categorically deny the possibility of tweaks having any effect or value are not allowed.' No   'Posts proclaiming tweaks to be “scams” “cons” etc. are not allowed.' No   'Posts that directly state, or imply, that ano...
Dustcover Blues
@jasonbourne52  Just remove the cover when playing an LP. That's what I do.   It feels a little strange to get used to but that's what I do now too. The problems with using any dust cover, any of them, can be sidestepped by removing it. At th...
AR XB headshell/tonearm
@imhififan    @cd318, AR turntables are highly collectible, I hope OP can keep it as original as possible during refurbishing and use that after market headshell or diy something similar to install his cartridges.    I agree.  They're well wo...
Open Baffle. Why are they mostly limited to DIY?
The main reason we see so few Open Baffle designs is one that most designers will happily explain. Noted designers such as Russell Kaufman (RussellK) and Peter Comeau (IAG) will explain the importance of market demand when embarking on any new de...
Portable Player Recommendation
In 2021 virtually any smartphone will suffice.I’ve got a couple of superb Sony portable players but I never use them. What’s the point?Just chose a phone with a decent battery life, good speakers (some have 2) and of course, a headphone jack.Don't...
Describe the sound of point source loudspeakers?
It is difficult to describe but I'd say you could look for a near seamless integration between bass and treble. My Tannoy Dual Concentrics are far from perfect, but they do have a sense of integration that is remarkable for speakers of that size.Ma...
AR XB headshell/tonearm
@imhififan Good to see the AR has not been completely forgotten. That headshell might be well worth the trade in of slight extra weight for extra rigidity.Either way, the original headshell is far from as bad as some like to claim.
AR XB headshell/tonearm
I’d stick with that headshell. It’s a vital part of that turntable’s charm.I picked up an AR turntable and when I eventually get around to setting it up I’ll do my utmost to use that original headshell. Some say it’s a vastly underated design.
