I feel bad for speaker manufacturers
@kosst_amojan, "I guess that's why I laugh at people who say measurements don't mean anything."A few Audiophiles might not care for measurements but thankfully there's hardly a single manufacturer who feels the same way. Not unless those old cable...
Is it possible to have vinyl nearly noise free?
@atmasphere great write up!  I guess since mainstream music ( I just cant bring myself to call it Pop) is still the biggest seller digital compression will remain a serious factor. At least until the mainstream listener invests in wide bandwidth a...
I feel bad for speaker manufacturers
@kosst_amojan"That's very hard to do when you're a nube that shows up and runs across some thread where a guy makes ludicrous claims that sound sophisticated because you're a nube that isn't up to speed. It seems to me that watching out for the nu...
I feel bad for speaker manufacturers
@mijostyn, yours is not an isolated case. The history of loudspeaker design is littered with tantalisingly intriguing designs which for one reason or another just didn’t make it to the market. Weren’t Naim Audio for one working on an electrostatic...
I feel bad for speaker manufacturers
@tomic601 ,Yes, lots left to be done. Many options including open baffle, sealed box, ported box, transmission line, horns, panels, line arrays, single crossoverless drive units etc etc.As of 2019 there is no clear design that is superior to the o...
Anyway to improve the sound of Tannoy Saturn s6?
@hifi_nuts , that's interesting. Makes sense but has anyone verified this? I once soldered a pair of 1970s speaker connections for a friend and we both were surprised at how much fuller the sound became afterwards. I should mention that the origin...
Is it possible to have vinyl nearly noise free?
@millercarbon, "Still, one has to admit, the way the phono stage knows to make the tick happen every time the record comes around, is pretty impressive."Cruel, but funny. I guess you just couldn't resist popping that particular balloon.Joking asid...
Music in the 40-80 Hz range
@dbphd, There's very little music in that range, (most of it lies further up in the midrange) but without that range some of your playback will sound very thin and weak.Apparently, what most of us consider as good strong bass is far closer to 60Hz...
New, Geostationary Orbit Demagnetization Service
I might have to start saving up for this. It would certainly save me a lot of time and energy having to do this manually. I know its not exactly new but its still a huge step forwards when its offered to be done remotely via satellite. Some uniniti...
How many audiophiles do you need to change a lightbulb?
@highfi , "All of us deserve to be screwed!"But not until we've suffered months of meticulously agonising painstaking research and analysis (before, some might say, making the totally wrong decision). No short cuts to true audiophilia are allowed....
What is an Audiophile? Here's the list for newbies.
@mg16 , "An audiophile is someone who, when they are not listening to music through their system, is thinking about listening to music through their system."Ouch! That hurts, but I'm still laughing - mostly at myself.
What is an Audiophile? Here's the list for newbies.
Yes multiple copies of A Kind of Blue (I'm on my third - twice CD and once vinyl) and that other perennial, Dark Side of the Moon (only on my second CD).I also suspect my Beatles collection is far from finished too. At least 3 different copies of ...
Reputable source for Nagaoka MP110?
Good luck with it, the original MP11 was my favourite cartridge. A class act with a beautifully balanced sound.
Budget speaker options, help needed.
Another vote for the Q Acoustics. I would suggest having a good listen first though as things might not have improved as much as you might wish in the last 40 years. I find budget speakers to be more neutral in sound nowadays but often at the expe...
What is an Audiophile? Here's the list for newbies.
A true audiophile is prepared to change his mind at the drop of his latest audio magazine.A true audiophile sees non-audiophiles (inc family) the same way as they see accessories, but not necessarily the most important ones.A true audiophile is 10...
