Caster Wheels vs. Spikes
I'd go with the manufacturer on this one, especially with such heavy speakers as yours!
Why all or most audiophiles are men?
@larry5729, great post,"If people listened to music there would be a lot less shootings."The cathartic power of music is grossly underestimated."I wonder at times if people are allergic to music."  We live in a busy restless world where music is a...
Why all or most audiophiles are men?
Probably because nature deemed most women to be practical child rearers and homebuilders whilst men tend to be hunters by nature. The big joke is that obsessive hunting for the great white whale of audio perfection can be an endless task with many ...
What’s your vote for the most ridiculous, overpriced, and useless tweak?
The best so far.Shun Mook LP Clamp $3200.00https://highend-electronics.com/products/shun-mook-lp-clamp$3200 to accelerate bearing wear and lower fidelity? One for the therapists to ponder, or trading standards.Just take a moment to think what else...
What's your favorite lyric from a song?
My favourite sequence from Pepper."People running round it's five o'clockEverywhere in town is getting darkEveryone you see is full of lifeIt's time for tea and meet the wifeSomebody needs to know the time, glad that I'm hereWatching the skirts yo...
What’s your vote for the most ridiculous, overpriced, and useless tweak?
@stringreen , good point. I never got on well with spikes - maybe it was my ancient floorboards to blame. So naturally I'm biased a little, and maybe that colours what I hear. I don't know, but they didn't work for me. I also hate the thought of r...
What’s your vote for the most ridiculous, overpriced, and useless tweak?
For me it was the horror of spiked loudspeaker stands. Some of these vandalising monstrosities even had spiked top plates!! Ouch! After all the careful alignment and sitting of spikes through carpet (on crosshead screws no less) what was the improv...
What is the best solid state amplifier you have ever heard?
@erik_squires yes Arcam stuff has been good for as long as I can remember. Always marginalising more towards warmth than most others. With first rate reliability and support too.
What is the best solid state amplifier you have ever heard?
@akg_ca , well spotted. It could just be a tautological posting error or perhaps something more sneaky...
New vinyl quality....
@denjer1,You’re not alone. Here in the UK myself and a couple of friends have found that well over half of new vinyl (180gm)/to be of poor quality, especially in terms of surface noise / clicks and pops. The turntable we use is a Pro-ject Debut Car...
Spade vs bare wire
With decent high purity OFC I find bare wire is fine due to its low oxidation levels. If you want connectors then get tarnish resistant ones that are also air tight giving the cable little or no chance to oxidise. Soldering can have it's own issues...
Black Ash.....
For some reason, strange to me now black (vinyl or veneer) was the colour of my first 3 speakers. In fact most of my Hi-Fi was in black, apart from the NAD stuff I started with. It just never occurred to me that other options were viable. Then one ...
Would an Isolation TT platform further improve my TT?
Gee, it seems as if you just can’t get turntable isolation low enough. Not easily anyway. Even <10Hz resonance might not be enough for optimal performance.https://www.ortofon.com/support/support-hifi/resonance-frequencyApart from totally over t...
Recommnedation for the BEST SOUNDING integrated amp up to $3500
All sand amps sound the same if power/level matched so just get any 100w Creek/Arcam amp.Otherwise it's got to be tubes. I've always thought that the Leben integrateds look great, but like many tube integrateds, may be underpowered for your needs.
Speaker upgrade question - Wilson vs Focal
@graystoke, good advice considering how well they hold their price.
