Can my Roon Nucleus be used with a non-Roon-ready DAC?
Here is what a DAC has to be in order to use with Roon. It needs to be driverless plug and play such that the Roon Core recognizes it. You can’t go into the core and tell it to just look for a signal in the USB port. It has to recognize the DAC an...
Audiophile Grade Wall Receptacle
Hospital grade and hospital grade isn't significantly better than a screw time regular grade (avoid push in type, even if you aren't upgrading).  The regular outlets will loosen up with use and hospital grade won't.   there are many audiophiles t...
Sound color with different jumper materials,
So are you saying that your speaker cables are plugged into the HF posts?  If so, the jumpers aren't in the signal path for the part ot the speaker than makes 90% of the "color".
Customs and duties in USA bringing and Amplfier from Europe
@russ69 In retrospect, it was probably a bad idea. But shipping was reasonable ($350 for a 120 lb amp, it would cost that much to ship in in the US).  I had been looking for an amp for quite a while.  I need a remote and a pre-in feature.  It is s...
Your thoughts on my quest for new speakers
jcs, I think the Hegal is a great amp and I have a buddy who loves the built in DAC.  My guess is that with the node, you were using the DAC in the node, which is inferior.  If you use the Node only as a digital streamer and take a digital signal...
Customs and duties in USA bringing and Amplfier from Europe
i bought a used amp for a litttle over $3k from a dealer in Cyprus. They were very experienced shipping to the US and filled out the shipping papers with correct codes to ensure no duties.  However, because the amp was so heavy, it was pulled for ...
First CD player help!
With either a CD player or a streamer you need a DAC.  DAC is the most important problem you face.  Onboard DACs on CD players generally suck, thus the CD transport and stand alone dac.  If you do want to use the DAC in the CD player, others can t...
I wonder what you would think if we scheduled a monthly Zoom Meeting?
I think it is a good suggestion and likely to work. 1.  Less people would actually do it than you think. 2.  People have to be much more polite on a zoom meeting.  You don't troll. or flame others on a zoom meeting. The would eiminate a lot of m...

Decline or accept upon receipt of damaged gear
So I have never refused shipment on a package.  Never been in a situation where i had an option to.  So tell me what happens when you decline a damaged package? I assume it will go back to sender.   I assume you save on return shipping.  What i...
Could use some capacitor advice :)
https://www.humblehomemadehifi.com/ Lots of good info here.   And the guy is well respected. I just ordered parts to upgrade my crossovers and did a lot of research.  I went with more expensive caps in the signal path but I think those you ...
The sound quality from DACs - is it all the same?
Audio science review is the antithesis of this forum. There people think the only thing that matters is the numbers--if it has the lowest THD and noise floor, it must sound best. Here people think all that matters is what they hear, even if their ...
No love for Legacy Audio
I almost bought a set to replace my tektons. Thanks vinylvalet. But the tektons were a bit more balanced from top to bottom. Legacy certainly looked nice and I like the speaker. I may yet own a pair someday. I agree they don’t get the respect the...
Balanced a good decision. Why?
YMMV.  Try them both and decide which one sounds better.  While balanced makes great sense, it doesn't always sound better.
Least Expensive Power Conditioner/Surge Protector That Won't Worsen Sound
No such thing for amps.  I like Tripp lite protectors and whole house for low current devices (basically everything else).
