STREAMING - QOBUZ VS TIDAL AND ROON'S PREFERENCES
Yes, 100% Qobuz sounds better to me. Some notes on my perceptions of the sound quality of various streaming services & of Qobuz vs Tidal specifically: My subjective impressions of the musicality and sound quality of the major HD streaming ser...
What USB cable to get?
+1 to what @ghdprentice said. Cables can sound different and better as you spend more, but only if your components can produce a commensurate level of resolution in sound quality. I would stick with the Belkin Gold for now, but this was my experie...
Recommended USB Cables under $200
The more typical choice that I can recommend is a Shunyata Venom at about $150, but a friend loaned me a Phasure Lush USB cable.which costs 210 Euros or just above your price point. The improvement that I heard over the Shunyata Venom was substant...
PANGEA AUDIO AC 14SE MKII SIGNATURE POWER CABLE OR WHAT?
I'm going through a similar process right now as I need a power cord for a new phono preamp. I've currently got a Shunyata Venom power cord on a Denafrips Pontus II DAC and have previously listened to the following power cords: I might use the Shu...
Pro-Ject Stream Box S2 Ultra plus custom LPS+ linear power supply.
+1 to a screen being superfluous. The best screen to control a streamer is an iPad sitting next to you, not an LCD screen on a streamer sitting 8 feet away.
The sound quality from DACs - is it all the same?
Go to a dealer. Listen for yourself. If everything sounds the same to you, then buy the cheapest DAC you can find. One question though. What’s so magical about spending up to $400? Why not just spend $100 and call it a day if all DACs sound the sa...
Surprised by streamer differences
@zlone I appreciate your comments on your Node 2i versus your Pi/Allo DigiOne. I have a Pro-ject Stream Box S2 Ultra which is essentially a RPi with power supplies and USB output optimized. I was deciding between the Node 2i and the Pro-ject and d...
Will a Moon 280D augment a Musical Fidelity/ATC combo?
@m669326 I haven't heard the Moon mind 2 streamer on its own, so I couldn't say one way or another.  I tend to reserve judgment on equipment until I've actually heard it myself. I've heard plenty of expensive equipment that sounds terrible and ine...
Will a Moon 280D augment a Musical Fidelity/ATC combo?
There is a matter of preference for the sound quality of DACs, but I can say that the Denafrips Pontus II is clearly better sounding than the Moon 280D. Someone might possibly like the Moon 280D better than the Qutest because it is slightly smooth...
Will a Moon 280D augment a Musical Fidelity/ATC combo?
@m669326 By 'different units', do you mean differences between the sound of DACs?
Digital separates or all in one music hub
FWIW, I have a Pro-ject Stream Box Ultra S2 streamer that has sounded quite good. I got it as a "starter" streamer, but have compared it to an Auralic Mini streamer and a $8.5k Naim NDX 2 used as a streamer. I’m sure there may be differences in so...
Will a Moon 280D augment a Musical Fidelity/ATC combo?
I’ve heard the Moon 280D streaming DAC compared to my Pro-ject Stream Box S2 Ultra streamer with a Chord Qutest DAC at a dealer last year. The Pro-ject/Qutest combination was quite a bit better sounding than the 280D in terms of conveying rhythm a...
Better R2R DAC Recommendation?
The Pontus II is a large step up from the Ares II in sound quality. I also use a Streambox S2 Ultra. Other suggestions are to add an Audioquest Jitterbug noise filter on the USB output from your Streambox.. The best sounding USB cable I've found i...
New Power Cable on a 1990 Hafler DH120?
I started another thread that presented the perspective of one electrical engineer that works in the audio industry doing analog circuit design here. That might be interesting reading on why power cords MIGHT make a audible difference in how your ...
Amir and Blind Testing
Don't forget also that Confirmation Bias works in both directions. Your brain can "confirm" improvements it expects to hear. Your brain can also "confirm" that you don't expect to hear any audible improvements.
