Tube amplification for Lipinski 505's?
Solid state is not a bad thing. The NOS tube bug is a bad thing. It will happen if you buy a tube amplifier, especially one that rolls tubes easily, like a Cary or a Rogue. I'd keep the Plinius and be happy. It's a fine amplifier. However, if the ...
Heaver grade vinyl vs Standard
I've bought four 180gm albums: the new Shelby Lynne, the EMI reissue DSOTM, the Analog Productions reissue of Waltz for Debby, and MFSL's do up of Aimee Mann's Bachelor No.2. All sound fine, with the EMI topping the list. Still, like 04rdking, I h...
Altec 19/Valencia - Room Size
I can't speak to the 19's, but I own a pair of Valencias. Go here to find a lot of info--like 57 pages worth--concerning Valencias. You should read the entire thread to be certain you want to go this route. IMO, room size is less of a concern than...
HDCD help please
CDuniverse is one place. Reference Recordings is another. Google them. Have fun.
How many of us look under the hood??
I check my amplifiers. It's difficult sometimes to get a schematic, so a little follow the wire investigation under the hood helps. Found an unattenuated input once. Best I can figure, the previous owner deleted the cap and resistor for use as a h...
In your opinion, what is Hi, Medium and Low end?
Oem: That was no knock on women. I was simply pointing out that Detroit, after god knows how long, finally took notice that women had access to money that didn't come from their husbands. That is, they earned it themselves. Detroit, as usual behin...
In your opinion, what is Hi, Medium and Low end?
Oh no, the dreaded automobile analogy torpedo! Abandon thread! Abandon thread! No, I cannot afford the cost of most hi-end equipment. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy what I can afford.

Cartridge upgrade question
Maybe you've already been there, but if you haven't, try the Cartridge Database. It will take in your tonearm data, output requirements, price parameters and come up with loads of suitable cartridges of all types. It's great fun. and you can spend...
Stumped
I understood you from the first, Dave. Thanks. You too, Swampwalker. I just unplugged the whole works and plugged it back in. Nothing unusual happened. Everything works fine. Just a weird experience that had no explanation. Haunted, maybe.
Stumped
I couldn't duplicate the effect. Since then, I've been thinking: I always use the knob to control volume, but the last time I listened, I used the remote (because it seemed like a cool, unusual thing to use). Dcstep, could I have activated then de...
Stumped
Three or four minutes, which, according to the Cary manual, is sufficient.
KT88 Opinions
I think you're seeing a trend. Genelex Gold Lion KT88 will not disappoint. Used them to replace my Tung Sol reissued 6550--no slouches--and was quite pleased. I have a Cary SLI-80 Signature.
'they blew'em off the stage'
T boneI often saw the Hooters at the Main Line Cabaret. Fun bar band. Phillips Hall at West Chester University had some great shows around the same time. Marshall Crenshaw played for maybe 13 people counting myself--the guy was just fantastic. Kin...
