Is McIntosh still a good choice?
I had a McIntosh 2102 in my system for about 2 weeks while I was awaiting LAMM M1.1 monoblocks. McIntosh is frequently knocked by so many "audiophiles" - those who turn their noses up and look away, in favor of more esoteric brands. I found the Mc...
Best Pre-amp under 2k-USED
Say 811. visit the Supratek website. I think Mick will make his tube pre with cinema by-pass. Other than that the only options I know of with those features are from Kora and VAC. http://www.cantech.net.au/~supra/>
Best tube pre-amp with remote vol. control
If you have $2100 to spend you might want to do yourself a favor and check out the Supratek Chardonnay (or Syrah if you want phono - 2400) The Supratek is hand made in Australia. I know it's inexpensive but it is quite easily one of the finest pre...
Any funny audiofile stories???
I have nothing funny to speak of - mostly sad audiophile stories. :) How about posting the list you received from your friend??

Best Speaker cables on the cheap?
Xiaohuang7 & Sean - Yes it is Tributaries. Silver plated copper. I have a bunch of it in my garage. I purchased it a long time ago when I was budget conscious. Looking back, I see it was a big waste of money. I would have been better off savin...
Best Pre-amp under 2k-USED
Say811, Krell makes good products and many people enjoy them. I used to have an all Krell system - but I think my ears got better as time went on. Today, I cannot listen to and enjoy Krell as much as I could a year or two ago. If you are looking f...

If you can squeeze an extra 100 bucks out of your budget, you will do good to get yourself a Supratek Chardonnay. Quite easily one of the top preamps in the world today - at any price. They sell new for $2100. Check out the website:http://www.cante...
Flamenco and Tango
I agree with Herman (above) on the Paco De Lucia - however I wouldn't say that since he has slipped into other genres of music for special appearances - or interests - that he is not a traditional Flamenco artist. By most accounts, he is one of th...
Granite under your amp???
Brianmgrarcom, I too set my speakers w/spikes on granite. Believe it or not, it's not that easy to slide a spiked speaker on the granite. The spikes dig in and if your speakers are heavy enough, will scratch the granite. My granite sits on hardwoo...
Granite under your amp???
I use granite under my speakers primarily to protect the hardwood floor. Results have be outstanding. For what it's worth, I think granite would serve as a better base than marble - if you look closely at a slab of marble, in most cases it's held...
Accuphase A50V v.s. Lamm M1.1
Hey everyone, thank you so much for the comments! I am quite impressed to learn how the Accuphase held up against the Lamm's in your comparisons. I've never read anything negative about the Lamm's and it seems that with the Accuphase A50V, they ha...
Question about break-in method for interconnects
I think the above post is correct. However I feel better putting a CD on repeat, with the preamp and amp on. I crank the preamp to a level slightly above normal listening levels and let it run all night long...This is done with the positive speake...
Accuphase A50V v.s. Lamm M1.1
Slagletj thanks for the reply. Have you ever owned any "lower end" Accuphase amplifiers (from the "P" series)? How do they compare to the A50V? Similar character? Or is it not even close? In your opinion, are the Accuphase amplifiers better than t...
A good 2ch preamp?
Knucklenutz, for that price you might try a Sony P9000ES multi-channel preamp. It is Sterophile Class A rated, multi-channel capable (in case you ever buy a multi-channel SACD player or DVD-A unit). It really isn't bad - pretty clean sounding and p...
