Bryston or Mcintosh Amps? There is certainly a difference in sound. I think both companies make excellent amps. It's hard to beat Mcintosh for resale value. Bryston does pretty well too. My wife loves the look of Mcintosh and ask me to buy them as well. The sound of the Ma...
What racks/amp stands do you own or have owned? I use Salamander Synergy for my audio equipment. Sound Anchors though is IMO the BEST. The owner is a real pleasure to work with. The prices are reasonable and the build quality is first rate.
Assessing room response Go to real traps website and burn the test tones to CD that they offer. If you do a search or go on the Rives Audio website you can find a compensation chart to correct for the inaccuracy of the meter at low frequencies. Then just run the sweeps. ...
Speaker for MC-501 I'd suggest some B&W N802D or the N803D. I think the B&W speakers do a great job with vocals.
mc402 vs 501 monos vs mc 602 with B&W802d The MC501s do sound better. It's not a huge difference but if you ever owned one, you would clearly hear the difference. It's unlikely that you would need more power than what you could get from the MC402. I have owned both amps. Knowing what I kn...
Surge protection Buy something like a Brickwall surge protector that does not divert the surge to the ground. Your apartment is grounded it just does not have the additional safety ground.
Preamp match to Theta Enterprise amps? Either, it's a matter of personal preference.
Mcintosh or Classe I own five Mcintosh amps. However I could be just as happy with Classe. IMO, they are about equal in sound quality but do sound differently. It's a matter of preference. I chose Mcintosh over Classe because of resale value. Mcintosh has the highes...
Banana plugs, Spades or a little of each? I only use bananas because spades are always sliding off. Spades are a pain in the butt.
REL or Martin Logan? Last year I narrowed my sub selection down to these two brands. I could not compare the two subs in the same room however. They were in separate systems in side by side rooms. Both subs did an extremely well job of blending with the systems in whi...
For HT, how important is extension south of 20 Hz? I use two Martin Logan Decents. I think they go down to 18Hz. I've spoken with you a bunch of times over the phone but we have never met. You gave me advice about Mcintosh monoblock, MC1000s with the Soundlabs. I think we spoke last a month or so ...
For HT, how important is extension south of 20 Hz? I think that is is necessary for movies. The bass down that low causes your clothing to move and you really feel like you are witnessing the event. A few subs that I have used for music worked well but ran out of gas with movie soundtracks. By the...
7.1 HT proc/amp for B&W Matrix 803x2,805x3, DS6x2? Bryston SP 2.0 or 1.7 and two amps, Adcom 7805 and a two channel one. 7 channel amps are expensive and heavy. I know you do not want to got that route but if you have a 12 volt trigger it is going to be just as easy to operate as one amp would be....
How far have things come regardingSS electronics? Yes solid state has greatly improved especially in the last five years with SACD and DVD-A requiring better electronics.
Acoustical Solutions or Auralex LENRD bass traps I would use Acoustical Solutions assuming I could get fiberglass panels instead of the foam Auralex uses. Foam absorbs the highs but does not do as well with the rest of the frequency spectrum. I think rigid fiberglass has better specs for room tr... |
