Considering analog...but nervous
Get a used Denon 47F/Denon 160. This will put your 'toe in the water' before a massive purchased would be warranted. New Vinyl is expensive, so also plan on going used. Don't invest in cleaning equipment yet, especially if it is new you are initia...
Sell towers for bookshelves?
Yes, sell the towers and get a pair of ProAc 1SC's to put on stands. As others had mentioned, the new room will need analysis before you will be happy. Be patient. Best to find a dealer that will loan you speakers to try with your gear in your new...
Preamp with tone control.
VAS Citation I will fill the bill, it also includes various RIAA curves so if you have vintage vinyl you will be all set..
Emotiva XDA-1 DAC?
I was on the reserve list and recently was advised that they will ship in February 15th. With the volume control issue I will wait a little while longer to be sure the fix is correcting the problem. Still it is a good value, assuming no other prob...
Tube Monoblocks for heavy music on Khorns
VAS 1 mononblocks, is the way to go. See them on the cayinusa site. I've used them with K-Horns and they are outstanding.
new interconnects
Time to visit Monoprice, great sounding cables, reasonable prices.
Audio's Biggest Loser?
Think about it, would you be happy with a Minicopper, or BMW 740li. But then again, as Elizabeth remarks, the copper would go first.
A low cost way to try phono once again?
Used Denon 47F, picked up locally, married with a Denon 160. Cost no more then $300. Preamp could be nad PP-2, which would work well with the 160. Then once you decide to move up, sell off the system and move up to a VPI.
Why the obsession with the lowest octave
Its human nature's hard wiring of the brain. Think about it, the fight or flight instincts of the human brain are more influenced by hearing low octave sounds. When you hear the rumble, T-Rex may be near, and that is exciting, know?
Tube Preamp suggestion for the uninitiated
Go with a Cayin 100 and sell off your current amps, that way you will put financial balance into the system.
Settling on a cartridge? VPI guys-question?
The cartridge is more of a match to the pre-amp. So, get the TT demo done to the pre-amp that you will be using. While the TT arm can make a difference, the first comparison should be to the pre amp you will be using.
Speaker cable made in USA?
Kimber's raw material comes from China, but is fabricated/manufactured and assembled in the USA.
Is 11' distance from projector screen too close?
I have a 11.5 viewing distance with my Sony H10 which uses a special sony 'short throw' lens. Front venting. The screen it self is 108". It has little 'screen door' artifacts. I also have a '20' model but it is a back up for when the '10' goes dow...
Decent cables for vintage McIntosh MC250 amp?
You need to take the 'cure' and go shopping at monoprice. Dare to be sensible.
phono preamp break-in machine
They come from Haiti, witch doctor included. Another one of the great myth's of audio.
