AXPONA anyone?
Skip the Chicago show, head for the big time with the show in New York on April 12th. There are plenty of cheap air fares available and the nite life is much better. Remember, the murder rate in New York City is much lower. Take care.
Tax return burning a hole in my pocket
No problem, just fix your tax withholding so no refund appears. I admire your giving the Federal government an interest free loan every year. Save us all money.
market value of my gears
Ignore 'blue book', not reliable and most of the time low ball pricing. Now for the comment on Nigeria. I buy all my equipment there. Never have had a problem, as long as you believe in virtual equipment.
Trip to NYC, What to do
By all means, search out music, especially the Coca Cola Club at Lincoln Center. Now a warning. Don't even think about seeking out a gear shop like Lyric or Singer. It will spoil the trip. But, if you must, bring your bank book showing at least $1...
Whole house audio
Making any part of it 'audio grade sound' will be a waste of money since you are dealing with 'in prefect' spaces that are not suitable to hi end sound.
Square room Soundstage??
It can work out if you assume one full wall can be well treated to absorb most of the sound. Think of it as having a virtual extra four feet. The key is an absorb rather then a reflective treatment. Read Floyd Toole's Sound Reproduction.
Anyone ever think about building a dedicated room?
Married with a 'man cave', I don't think so. Best you spend the first couple of years together without creating your 'get away' space. Any woman, assuming 'sound' mind, would be crazy to buy into your plan. Wait until you both are ready to buy you...
Advice
Step by step is the best way to go. As suggested, first ditch the Mac DAC. USB 3.0 outboard DAC's are in the pipe line and that will make a difference. It will also give you a path to further improvement.
Is audio a kind of spiritual journey?
No, the journey is grounded in physics, nothing spiritual about it. Now what's in your mind is another matter. Notwithstanding we have been assured that their will be music in the hereafter. Enjoy the music.
Audio Equipment... the word Cool... and Life
Many years ago the New York Times ran an article on 'cool'. It outlined how you must always be a 'coolhunter', as it is a state of mind.
Speaker finish?
You are on the road to audio and martial disaster. You have just been suckered and you don't know it. It is obvious, when she finds someone else with a better 'finish', content and function doesn't matter, she will dump you. Better check with Dr. ...
Gone are the days of the great audition.
Your can't go wrong listening to JohnnyR. Keep to it, Johnny.
Cured of upgraditis?
Unfortunately you are doomed. Twelve step programs are useless in this area. Don't even think about going to any audio shows, for if you do, terminal 'upgraditis' will set in. In the short term, the only hope is that you have a few college educati...
$5000.00 To Spend Looking for Tube Pre-Amp
Please consider the Cayin/VAS Citation I, which is a knock off of the original HK Citation. I have one. Great sound, great value. The I is great for any vinyl fan.
Got Ears?
Many colleges and universities that have good music programs offer classes in music listening skills. Well worth attendance, especially since you will get to interact with other classes members that can help you understand different approaches. Ju...
