What do you expect a reviewers system to be
As mentioned, having two systems, in different rooms. One would be a reference system that resulted from many years of listening. The other would be a continual work in progress with testing new components to be compare only against the reference ...
Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" drove me insane almost
So, it all comes down to the question of whether the 'noise/distortion' is on the master tapes. Come 'clean' Sony, say it is not so.
Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" drove me insane almost
Until a Blu-Ray version of Blue is made we will never know the compromised issues. So, get on Sony's tail.
Decisions, decisions, decisions....
Go with the TT. Don't buy in to Harry's overpriced accessories. I have the TT and it works well. I had a delaer loan me the VPI to see if I heard any difference. I didn't.
What is a really good sounding low volume system??
My advice on audio and newly married is just say no. No to audio, that is. From your comments it is suggested that you have not had a heart to heart audio talk with your bride to be. Does she know you have this addiction? Apparently not, given all...
Repair B & O 1800 or replace
Go for a Denon 47F, used, that you can pick up. Cost should be around $250-300, leaving room for a new cartridge. Vintage turntables, like the 1800, are not repairable in a cost effective way. Best sell it off for parts. The Soundsmith cartridge w...
...just wondering
Harry, you old fox and a genius at marketing at that. Create buzz and they will beat a path to your bank account. So, will the ceramic platter sound better then what you already have. Maybe. Best to offer a full refund to buyers that purchase. Pro...
Life span of speakers
I second Elizabeth's comments but would add that environment makes a significant factor. If stored and used in stable interior climate conditions the life can be well over fifty years.
Less than top line reel-to-reel worth it?
'tactile ritual' beats computer selection.
Less than top line reel-to-reel worth it?
Well said guys. As a long time R2R hobbyist, owning now over 10 decks and 3000 tapes, it is a lot of fun. Just diving into the whole recording process gives one a great in-depth understanding of all things audio. My recommended decks are the Techn...
Sony SCD-777ES vs current Players
I have a top of the line Sony Blu-ray player and also the 777. I do not notice a difference in CD/SACD media play back from either as compared to the blu-ray player. So, for now do not sell off the 777. I have not heard the Oppo 105. I think if an...
Electrocompanient EMP-2 vs. Oppo BDP-103
By now you have discovered that life is all about 'packaging' and 'marketing'. The parts you find in most electronic items are usually from a single source. As one example you will find the chips in Sony CD players to be almost identical, with pow...
KIND OF BLUE
All must wait for the bluray issue, which I am sure will be the best issue. For now I give the r2r version the highest media reading, and yes I have all the others too.

Cayin A100T vs Spark MT-100k
I have the A100t, and I am very pleased with both the sound and value. I have not heard the MT-100 so I cannot tell what the sonic differences are. Most likely the higher weight is due to different transformers and chaise. I sure Steve, the USA di...
