To Tube or not to Tube, that is the question @dekay Thanks but the ST35 is also available from Dynakit directly. I learned this when I gave him a call. Seems the business has been paired back to a one man operation from home and he prefers to take orders by phone. Apparently he has not upd...
To Tube or not to Tube, that is the question However, the ST70 uses a pentode for this task, where the ST70 uses a much more linear triode. @atmasphere This seems to be a typo, did you mean theST35 is a linear triode? BTW I read your article on amp design paradigms this morning. Good St...
To Tube or not to Tube, that is the question I might add I am leaning towards the Dynakit ST-35 for 3 reasons. It has more power, 17w vs 2w, it's a NJ company and i could drive to get it, no shipping risk, AND it was favorably mention by @atmasphere , which carries a lot of weight with me :-)
To Tube or not to Tube, that is the question @evank Funny I bought a pair of Brimars from Upscale but they were noisy and they gave me all kinds of static about replacing them, so I went back to the JJ's. I think they give a more defined sound which I like, the Brimars sounded more muted to ...
When CDs first came onto the market in 1982 ....... For me the reliable lack of surface noise was the standout feature, perhaps that is the same as the perceived clarity you mention but I also recently read that the usable dynamic range was much better, which matches my recollection of those first ...

Pass Then vs. Pass Now Agreed that the F6 is a different model than the XA30 but I disagree about the relevance of who builds it. When the important parts and design are identical I would expect the resulting performance to be too.
Pleasurably better, not measurably better I like the food analogy. Consider predicting how people will react to a dish by measuring the pH, thickness, saltiness, sweetness. Characterizing the food by single parameters is almost hopeless. So you have the characteristics of a mixture and ...
Pass Then vs. Pass Now I have not heard the bigger commercial Pass amps but I just changed over for the season from my Rogue Sphinx v2 to my DIY Pass F6. Despite their very different topologies,Class D with tubes, Class A, they have more in common than different. Mainly...
Who is Gonna Buy A New Jeep Grand Wagoneer For the MacIntosh Stereo? Let’s see now, hi-fi in a noisy, piece of crap, gas guzzling vehicle. Yep the marketing plan seems as well thought out as everything else about the Jeep.
Dust Settled Consensus- is the Benchmark AHB2 an Audiophile Amplifier? Guess what? You can have it both ways. Precision from your Benchmark can be colored with euphonic tube like distortion on the days you want it for just a few bucks and a little soldering.

Cable design is a lot like creating a pizza @rodman99999 I have no doubt that there are many using cables as tone controls, which simply goes to show: cables CAN/DO make a difference in reproduction. However: everyone I know that uses high-end cables, regardless of position in ...
Cable design is a lot like creating a pizza @jumia A very good analogy! So I’ll have a plain pizza and add my own toppings of amp and dac and DSP please.
Any fans of Ken Peplowski here? Hope you like him. I agree, smooth swing is his thing. But his recordings are also technically right too which adds a lot to the experience. |
