Mozart Fans Only
Learsfool, Let's not forget Hans Rott, who eventually was institutionalized, having run through a train waving a pistol and shouting that Brahms was trying to kill him. I'm pretty sure that qualifies.
THE GREAT AC OUTLET SHOOTOUT.
Gpb, can you elaborate on the dedicated branch circuits? Is this a sub panel dedicated to audio only?
Beethoven Symphonies - best perf + sonics on CD
Goofyfoot, It is a real dilemma. Here I sit, with my recently purchased DG SACD remasters, for the most part thrilled with the artistic merit, but recognizing that the recordings leave much to be desired. Certainly, they aren't bad at all for 1962...
THE GREAT AC OUTLET SHOOTOUT.
Mr Tennis, I was able to remove my amplifiers from power treatment by replacing the AC outlets with Audio Magic duplexes. The replaced duplexes were fairly new levitons. I was a sceptic about all of this but I ran the experiment, since it was not ...

Goofyfoot, With the first dozen measures of the DG Eroica, the thought came to mind that the Japanese cherry picked the 3rd. The 3rd and 4th are the only ones I see available in the Japanese remasters. On the other hand, if the Japanese were able ...

Update on the DG SACD 1963 Herbert von Karajan recordings. Tonight I listened to the Eroica. I was stunned. Just stunned, by how much better the recording quality was from the 1, 2, 7, & 8. Yes, there was still a little grunge here and there, ...

Buconero, I'm curious. Which ModWright do you own?

The NOS Mullard GZ34, if you can find a good one, is a nice rectifier. It is a nice tubey rectifier. I actually prefer the current production Synergy 5AR4s to the old Mullards. Lower noise, even better dynamics with the synergy. Also, I suspect the...

This does not sound right at all. I'd be talking to Dan. This is not even close to the kind of performance you would expect. Sounds like far more that a little impatience with burn in. You might expect it to be a little sub optimal, but nothing li...
WA-Quantum GmbH's Quantum Chips
Ozzy, even better, has anyone tried a chip on their earlobes?I don't get how these things work, but that doesn't mean they don't work. I'm only about 85% joking with the ear lobe idea. I stuck some on my maggie fuses and they did make an audible d...

Goofyfoot, Steely is not a problem on the DG remasters based on what I have heard so far. At least not steely in a digital steely sense. I think you really have to buy this stricktly on artistic merit. That said, I'm sure the remastering helped some.

Goofyfoot, I would probably be most likely to spring the money for the 7th, although I had a deep love for HVKs 3rd as well. I would take them one at a time, depending on how they sound. The best I can describe the DG remasters is like when you fi...

Lowrider, Goofyfoot, and all interested in the remastered 63 von Karajan set. It arrived today, and I started off with the 7th and 8th, both of which I owned and loved on vinyl, then went to the 1st and 2nd. In terms of the sound, it is well, a bi...
Coincident Linestage vs CJ CT5 or Allnic L-3000
Charles, I asked him about the 10 and 20dB gain options. His answer was pretty much along the lines of "the current CSL has 14 dB of gain. That should put you in the 10 to 2 o'clock area for most of your listening." He appears to have been correct...
Coincident Linestage vs CJ CT5 or Allnic L-3000
I have relatively inefficient speakers (Magnepan 3.7R's) and amps with somewhat low input sensitivity (2.8 V to give 28 dB gain) and yet the volume setting on the CSL is about 9 to 11 o'clock, which gives peak db levels at my listening position of...
