Beethoven Symphonies - best perf + sonics on CD Lowrider, thanks for the correction. Would you believe P. Jarvi?
Coincident Linestage vs CJ CT5 or Allnic L-3000 Obrennan, Thanks for the update. I am about 1-3 weeks away from placing an order for my Coincident LS. Can't wait!
Beethoven Symphonies - best perf + sonics on CD Crazee, I also like Greensburg's lectures. He has quite a few different lecture sets and they are all worthwhile in my opinion. As you can see from the above, the LvB symphonies are a place where one can do a good bit of sampling without spending ...
Beethoven Symphonies - best perf + sonics on CD It is surprising how much consensus there is. There is so much here I agree with in what has been written. The Furtwangler-Barenboim comparison is one I have drawn myself on occasion. I have not heard Harnocourt's cycle, but am familiar with his s...
Beethoven Symphonies - best perf + sonics on CD I also like the Gardiner LvB. The 2nd is as good as any I have heard.
Replacement for Maggie's? Harri, sounds like all is ending well. My wife thinks Maggies look cool. No one told her she is supposed to hate them, I guess.
Beethoven Symphonies - best perf + sonics on CD For a modern set on redbook cd, given your stated preference for thrilling performances and overall good sonics, what comes to mind first is Paavo Jarvii's RCA Red Seal cycle. It 's SACD/Redbook hybrid. In places he is very Toscanini like in tempo...
Replacement for Maggie's? Mapman, good comments, although I take a different view in some respects. You are absolutely correct in pointing out that music preference plays a huge role in deciding how to go. However, I chose maggies precisely because of the fact that I liste...
Replacement for Maggie's? Harri, When I was auditioning speakers another dynamic speaker I thought had a lot going for it was the Dali Helicion 400 II. There is a Dali MS4 for sale now in your price range. Its a step up from the Helicon. You won't get the big sound of plan...
Replacement for Maggie's? Guys, I think the op is having some WAF issues. That is one reason he didn't want to go with the Maggie 3.7's. More planar suggestions may not be what he is after.
CD player with Tube Output or Music Server Look into a ModWright Oppo 105. It has digital in, so you can use it as a DAC and you also get a superb redbook/SACD player by all accounts.
Power cords for ModWright SCD-XA5400es Janfant, I suspect Dan Wright has run that experiment already. If he uses VooDoo at the shows, there is probably a reason.I have a buddy who is going to lend me a couple of VH Airsines for a couple of weeks. That will be an interesting experiment....
Power cords for ModWright SCD-XA5400es It has been my experience that the ModWright power supply is more responsive to power cord changes than the player per se. The VooDoo Audio Vector Dragon is very good going to the power supply on the ModWright Sony.
Replacement for Maggie's? Harri, When I was auditioning speakers I found 2 other speakers I thought I could live with. Those were Wilson Sophia III's (16K) and Magico V2s. My wife hated the look of the Wilsons, but was ok with the maggies. Maybe you should give the Magicos...
Replacement for Maggie's? I hear you bro! The problem is that those of us who really like the Maggie sound find it extremely difficult to find something else we can live with. I suggest you listen to the 3.7's (with a sub)and then listen to other speakers in the same price... |
