Elrog 300B vs Takatsuki 300B tubes
I recently acquired the Elrog 300Bs. I detect no decrease in dynamics, playback volume, or anything else that may be related to decreased power. My previous tubes were Psvane T1 (black bottles). My speakers are 94dB efficient. I have not heard the...
What's the greatest bargain in SET these days?
Len, I picked up the William Christie Monteverdi Vespers on Erato. BTW, in the spirit of respecting the thread, Padmore sounds better through an SET amp.
What's the greatest bargain in SET these days?
Len, early music is Padmore's wheelhouse. No doubt. I read a review of his Schubert that said the same thing as you. For me, Padmore pushes all the right buttons, but his is a different take and will not suit everyone. We will wait a long time for ...

Len, got a phasing alert on that site. BTW, I'm loving the Guarnari Sibelius.
If you could bring back one great artist that has
Schubert, agreed, but shall we bring the master back as an organist or perhaps to recompose the lost St.Mark?
how refined are your ears?
Schubert, I envy your time in Germany. Clearly, you made the best of that opportunity. I would dearly love to sample first hand the offerings in Leipzig, Dresden, and Berlin. I suppose, if I am ever able to make that trip I will have to take in a ...

Schubert, Funny you mention Fisher-Dieskau imprinting! I thought to myself, if Len has had a steady diet of Fisher-Dieskau's Schubert lieder, Padmore is going to be a tough sell. Fisher-Dieskau's Mullerin is great stuff, but Padmore convinces me h...

Schubert, I would be very interested in your reaction to Padmore's Schubert. He brings that which we now expect from Bachs passions to Schubert. Reactions have been mixed. As for JFF, it's not like it took a genius to see that train wreck coming.

Erndog, Agree! It is almost to the point of fine literature, at this point. Still not sure if it is a tragedy or a comedy (in the classical sense.) As for me, I'm sensing some unexpected turns leading to a happy ending.

I'm going to submit for your consideration tenor Mark Padmore. He is well known for his his baroque works, but I also just love his recordings of the Schubert lieder with Paul Lewis. He has a unique way of saying more with less, if you catch my dr...

Rebbi, congratulations! You ran the definitive experiment. Once you get things sorted out, I do hope you are able to make things work with the deCapos. Back at the beginning of this adventure, I evaluated the deCapos driven by my Coincident Franke...

Mikirob, like you, I also detected some mission drift occurring. That is the nature of audiophiles. This is what I want, wow, this is great, now how do I make it better? Rebbi is doing what we all do when we make that first step from midfi to the ...
Why Don't More People Love Audio?
I can do John Kerry watching James Taylor for $1.98.

Rebbi, Yes, my deCapos have the Be tweeters and are nextel. BTW, I have had an opportunity to carefully audition the 26K Coincident PREs. Certainly, the PREs have that low frequency foundation you can't expect in a monitor like the TEIIs. And, the...

Rebbi, The coincidents have coherency that is just uncanny. For all the world this sounds like a single driver. Superb transparency and air, and if everything else is right, they image like champs. Accuracy of timber is as good as I have heard. Th...
