Early Music aka Historically Informed Music It is heresy for any Brownsfan to say anything remotely flattering regarding Pittsburgh. That said, I will concede that the PSO is a bright spot in that otherwise blighted region. I especially admire their banjo section. :) Schubert, I was also an...
Early Music aka Historically Informed Music Thanks for the heads up, Len, but Pittsburgh????? I don't even by Heinz catsup.
You know you're an audiophile if-- Your house gets robbed but they didn't take the stereo because that old tube junk isn't worth anything.
Elrog 300B vs Takatsuki 300B tubes Mathaias, my Elrog 300B tubes are still functioning properly, but have only about one month of warranty left. Will Elrog accept a return on my tubes and send me a pair suitable for my Coincident Frankenstein amps?
Elrog 300B vs Takatsuki 300B tubes Joe, thanks for clarifying. It could be a complete coincidence, but I had two different electricians read 122.1 V six months apart. I should probably begin taking my own readings at various times of the day to get a better feel for the range.Marku...
Elrog 300B vs Takatsuki 300B tubes Al,I had exactly the same concern regarding variacs. I spent $1K having dedicated lines run to the room, and who knows how much on PCs. Now I'm supposed to run everything through a cheap variac? I'm also concerned about limiting current. Don't rea...
Elrog 300B vs Takatsuki 300B tubes Thanks Al! I'm going to leave this discussion to you guys who actually know something. I will allow you and George to dialogue until a meeting of the informed minds occurs, at which point, I will act accordingly. I just don't want to start burning...
Elrog 300B vs Takatsuki 300B tubes All, my AC measures 122.1 V. I got the same number last week as I did last November, so I am a little concerned regarding tube longevity in my Frankensteins. I did check to verify I have no red dots on the cathodes. My power company will not addre...
High value, high efficiency speakers for SET amps Rebbi, I occasionally turn the subs on, but I have them set up to provide just a wee bit of low end help. I rarely turn them on. I am in agreement with map man on this. For me, the solution is to go with an appropriate full range speaker eventually.
High value, high efficiency speakers for SET amps Smctigue and tubegroover. In another thread initiated by threadmaster Rebbi, we did discuss an apparent high sensitivity of the deCapos to synergy with the amp. In my case, I drove the deCapos with the SS Cary amp, and frankly, I couldn't figure o...

High value, high efficiency speakers for SET amps Ralph, I guess I will have to take my dB meter next time I take in a St. Matthew Passion. I favor small ensemble, period instrument, even at times, one voice per part, which I doubt would give anything like 105 dB mid hall. My current set up, with...
High value, high efficiency speakers for SET amps A few comments. I also listen at lower than typical volumes. I frequently have to fight with salon proprietors to turn it down when I audition new equipment. In my case, those lower volumes represent realistic volumes. Bach cantatas are seldom per...
Elrog 300B vs Takatsuki 300B tubes Charles, Sorry to hear about the tubes. Mine are still doing OK, but I have had very little listening time for the last month. Still trying to sell the old house and so forth. Too much traveling, too much mowing, not enough music and not enough hi...
Best Vinyl Bach - Solo Cello Suites recording? Schubert and Dougdecon, I also ordered a used copy of the Byslsma set. Looks like this is out of print, with fairly high used prices. Anyone who wants to get a reasonably priced copy should act fast. |
