Taylor Swift Concert Prices
Folks get what they want. If they want to get Taylor Swift tickets all the power to them. If they want to buy stereo equipment they should. How is there a connection between the two? If you want to spend money on material things, great! If you wan...
Prospectives on Chi-Fi
We do have the ability to buy less from China. Getting some things from China doesn't mean you have to buy everything from China.  There are plenty of companies in the US, Canada, Italy, France, Germany, etc manufacturing hi-fi gear in their own c...
Compact Floor-standing Speaker Recommendations under $4k
I am not sure your speakers are the cause. I have the very same speakers and have not found them to be bright at all.  There are no peaks at all after 1000 Hz and the response drops like a rock after 12k hz. Could be my speakers or my electronics....
What is the most challenging music to play on a stereo?
Been listening to Dark Side of the Moon every time I try out a system for the past 44 years. Good to use the same music whatever it is I think. Plus, I never tire of listening to it. Greatest album of all time! IM(less than humble)O
We should reject hard-to-drive speakers more often
@atmasphere  The question for me is not whether the sensitivity of one's speakers matters in terms of integrating them into a system. Obviously it does. Nothing you are saying is new to me. The question is whether low sensitivity speakers are bad ...
We should reject hard-to-drive speakers more often
@atmasphere  Yes, the 705s are not that hard to drive. But whether the speakers were sensitive or not was not the issue. Did I like the sound? I know two people who have Maggie's and 400 watts in each monoblock to drive them. They love them.  I se...
We should reject hard-to-drive speakers more often
I just returned a pair of zu audio dirty weekend speakers. Very sensitive speakers.  Tried a pair used Bowers and Wilkins 705s. The original version. Much less sensitive. To my ears, more natural and clear. I don't think sensitivity is an issue at...
un-becoming an audiophile
You analyze yourself very precisely here. Maybe you are stuck in an analytical approach to life and not just to music.  Directly experiencing music means escaping that analytical mind.  Like when we hear a live band and feel like dancing. The musi...
Female vocalist recommendations
Lana Del Rey  Dolores O'Riordan (Cranberries) Karen Jonas (way underappreciated and for the time being pretty unknown). Start off with the track: butter  Sylvan Esso- electro pop. Try sunburn off of her new album. No rules Sandy. US Girls  Ju...
Why do we stop listening to new music as we get older?
I decided when I started listening to talking heads and Elvis Costello and turned away from my old faves, led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, yes etc, they I would always look for new music. And I have kept that promise to myself. Got tickets for Taylor Swif...

Integrated amp recommendation
In your situation recently. I got the Yamaha s801. 100 watts into 8 ohms my, 200 watts into 4 ohms. Confirmed by a third party website. The author also noted that its overall performance was excellent. Includes a dac and a phone stage.  You can ge...
Anyone heard new Zu Union 6?
So would you say that the Unions lean bright or do they have a balanced sound--if the rest of the system allows it?  I am thinking to add a class D amp to the DWs to boost the treble and clarity or go with the Unions.  I can buy a pair of Unions t...
Anyone heard new Zu Union 6?
I listen to a variety of music but most often listen to indie rock and pop with a good deal of classical music mixed in. Particularly, violin. Some straight ahead rock and roll and the tinge of classic rock like Pink Floyd and the Eagles. Some ele...
Anyone heard new Zu Union 6?
I am right now in a free trial of the dirty weekend 6s. I have mixed feelings. Nice deep bass response. I like the mid-range performance considering it somewhat lush. But the treble clarity and presence is not quite there for me. Resolution, too. ...
