At what price is one considered an Audiophile. I don’t like the term audiophile. Crucially, speech to text never gets it right. Plus, it just sounds pretentious. I simply say that I care about the way sound is reproduced. I don’t even know how we can talk about price. If we bought gear years a...
Real or Surreal. Do you throw accuracy out the window for "better" sound? So, Is it that your father's images were unrealistically dark or is it that the indoor lighting did not create that perception? You said initially that your father's images appeared natural. And now you say they are unrealistic. So are naturalnes...
Real or Surreal. Do you throw accuracy out the window for "better" sound? Perhaps metallic was not the right word to use to express my sense of the falseness of the sound. Metallic edge in the same sense I would use to describe the taste of a diet soda. But it does sound appropriate when literally describing a cymbal hi...
Real or Surreal. Do you throw accuracy out the window for "better" sound? @asctim Curious that you would use the word impact. Your father may not have been going for impact. Impact sounds like the image has an aggressive quality where the it 'pushes' at the viewer so that the viewer is impressed. The artist adds satur...
Real or Surreal. Do you throw accuracy out the window for "better" sound? I am a photographer and this is the same debate that occurs in photography circles. And just like in photographs, I tend to notice excesses and be disturbed by them. The best sort of photograph for me is one in which I don’t question anything. Jus...
Rumors of CD Demise Exagerated? New Hegel From my own limited perspective, I see vinyl sales coming primarily from pop artists while CDs are the main physical medium for the classical music I enjoy. My guess is that niche of CD sales will keep on keeping on. Just like classical music itse...
Bought a system without auditioning, thoughts? Why do you say you're going to learn a hard lesson? I would give the speakers as long a trial period as the company allows. I ran a few trials before settling on the speakers I have right now. It can take some time. The only problem is reboxing th...
What was your first record? Beatles '65. I still own and play it at times. No Reply is one of my all-time favorite songs.
Is the Marantz PM8006 powerful enough to power my B&W 802 Matrix Series 3? I agree with the idea of the s801. I got it after trying the marantz 1711 and returning it. I didn’t have the Bowers& Wilkins 705s at the time. But, having bought a pair of the original 705s, I am enjoying the combo. One YouTube reviewer told ...
Are your listening levels healthy? Doing damage? Some medications can cause tinnitus. I was taking Prilosec and started experiencing tinnitus. I read there might be a correlation so discontinued the medication and after a while the tinnitus went away.

Any Advice for those Listening to Youtube Reviewers? As always, buyer beware. I listen to YouTube reviewers primarily for entertainment but also to find about gear that I never would have heard about otherwise. I do listen to suggestions and have acted upon them in the past. Can you have too much speaker presence? The dealer’s comment seems far too vague for me to feel confident in an interpretation. What was your interpretation? You mentioned in a question that presence can be about a certain frequency range, but is this what the dealer meant? And, if so, ... |
