Who thinks $5K speaker cable really better than generic 14AWG cable? Opinion....I have wondered for some time whether silver contributes to a resonance in conductors that results in it’s particular coloration that I hear. It may not interact with equipment I haven’t heard. Some may like what I think is a coloration...
Who thinks $5K speaker cable really better than generic 14AWG cable? joey_vMaybe that's why they make different kinds of cables. But my opinion stands. I have never heard a silver cable I could live with. YMMV.
Who thinks $5K speaker cable really better than generic 14AWG cable? I'm in the low cost club. NOT necessarily the anything works club. There are inexpensive 12ga and 14ga cable solutions, but they are not all created equal. And there are 10ga and 8ga solutions that sound very good but most are impractical and, ...
Ortofon 2m Bronze in a Jelco 750D? The SA-750D is a very good arm and worked quite well with a Lyra Clavis da Capo. Not sure of the mass, but the Lyra is pretty demanding and requires a high mass arm, IIRC.
Doh, left system off all night o_holter - Tubes don't have the warm-up problems that ss does. My experience is that tubes take a max of an hour or two to reach their envelope of best performance. Solid state can take 10 times that long or longer. So tubes can be MUCH more ec...
Doh, left system off all night Lalit,I cannot disclose the DAC I will get because it will end up being somebody's prototype. But the DAC I have been using is an out of production modified Douk. There might have been others better, but not in my system. String... nice feat...
Doh, left system off all night Tube gear takes about half an hour to 45 minutes. Solid state amps sometimes take a few hours of playing music, sometimes a lot less. But once the amps are on and warmed up, they don’t need continuous music. I usually leave them on 24/7 and don't...
Tapping on my table Don't tap on your table. It causes tapping noises.Don't use marble under the table. Use maple butcher block only.If your table sounds good, don't screw around with it.
Warm-up time for amps and preamps Starting with the sources...VPI recommends turning on the table 30 minutes before use (VPI Aries)AT-OC9/II phono cartridge usually takes one record side / 20 minutes to sound "right"Herron VTPH-2 comes up the same time as the OC9/II -- 20-30 minut...
Tubeyist sounding Pre-amp? tubegroover - Actually, I'm a tube lover. I own a tube phono stage with a FET mc front end and fully tubed line stage preamp. Herron VTPH-2 and Herron VTSP-3A (r03). They are very wonderful units. Vanishingly low distortion and coloration. N...
Best sounding turntable and cartridge for $1100 sunnyjim....IMO, a properly set-up HW-19 Mk III (remove the spring suspension and use pucks, level the system, etc.) will outperform anything remotely close in price, new or used, except for a HW-19 Mk IV (typically a few hundred more). Arms are ...
Tubeyist sounding Pre-amp? Just find a tube unit from the early 1960s and put in some worn out tubes. Get as much distortion as you can. That will make it sound "tubey." Great, fat, bloated, lacking transparency like trying to read fine print through a layer of mud while we...
Accidentally dropped Benz cartridge on moving acrylic platter for my VPI Scout The groves in typical vinyl records are MUCH more brutal than the surface of a clean VPI acrylic platter. If the rig still plays a record sounds OK, all is good.
Something just isn't there I might suggest a couple of things to try.....First is to move the speakers around. Look for a change is sweet spot in the room. Change your listening position. And I noticed a sudden lifelessness in my own system the other evening. I noticed ...
Best sounding turntable and cartridge for $1100 I'm coming in here a little late. I might suggest a used VPI HW-19 Mk III. A real Mk III with a steel chassis, not one of those upgraded Jr.'s sitting on MDF. Many of the used ones have very nice arms, Premier FT-3 and -4, a few Jelco SA 750D,... |
