A reasonably priced DAC upgrade from Schiit Gumby
I tried the Gumby and returned it. The relay clicking between tracks when streaming drove me nuts. I ended up with a Denafrips Pontus II. I know you didn’t like the Ares, but to my ears, the Pontus II with updated firmware sounds very natural and ...
Anyone else suffering with Qobuz tonight
Worked fine for a brief time last night in central NJ.
John Strohbeen from Ohm Acoustics passed away
I spoke with John in person and by phone several times. Always patient and a gentleman. I have been thrilled with my Walsh 2000s since I bought them in 2009. I was one of the first to purchase this model, and it is my exit ramp speaker. He was a g...
Tube rolling on MacIntosh C2300
I believe you can shut the phono section off, so, in effect, you will have 4 spare tubes. FWIW, I swapped the factory tubes on my C220 for Mullards, current production. They are quieter and slightly warmer sounding than the stock tubes.
I won the stressless lottery
Well, I have a pair of Stressless recliners with footrests.  Unfortunately, I got these only after my folks passed.  My mother's is a bit smaller than my father's.  I actually prefer it over the larger one, since the back doesn't rise over my ears...
Gary Wright has passed away
He died from Parkinsons with Lewy Body Dementia.  My mom died of the same combo.  An awful sickness.  RIP, Gary.
Recommend me a DAC under 3k
+1 for the Denafrips Pontus II.  I don't have the 12th anniversary edition, but I did upgrade the firmware to the current version.  This is a fantastic DAC for the price and perhaps even higher price.  I tried to avoid Chi-Fi, but after trying and...
Level the floor
So my basement, home of my Man Cave, slopes down towards the sump pump well.  That saved my amp, subs and speakers when we had a flood in 2007!  Don't level your floor unless you are certain that this isn't an issue.   I don't really level much ...
Attention Thorens experts
Reviving an old thread with a new question:  I would like to add oil to the base of the spindle shaft.  The sub platter seems locked in place, and I can't lift it up out of the shaft.  Is there a trick to releasing the sub platter so I can get to ...
People Who Affest Electronics
@bolong LMAO!  Your post is funny, but if you tell anyone, I may have to k-ll you!  🤫
People Who Affest Electronics
Well, as our VP says, "electronics are very important to the present.  But to understand our present, we have to understand our past.  And if we can understand our past, we can understand where we are going, in the future.  It can all be explained...
Bad news for home theater enthusiasts
I am one of the luddites who still rents DVDs and Bluerays.  One thing few people talk about is depth of catalog.  Netflix DVD rental offers something like 100,000 titles, including many indie and foreign films, as well as music performance videos...
Pee Wee Herman has passed away
He will be missed.  Paul Reubens (aka Pinchas Rubenfeld) was an entertainer with a hero father, who was one of the Israel Air Force's founding members, flying a fighter for the new State of Israel in it's war of independence.
As A Youngster, What Unit Puqued Your Interest In All This?
My dad's mono system:  Rek-O-Cut turntable, Audax tonearm, GE pickup into a Bogen integrated tube amp into an early KLH 6.  I inherited the KLH 6.  It still works.  He once told me he auditioned early stereo and thought it was a gimmick created to...
Speaker that are 'KEEPERS" for the long haul!!!
Probably never replacing my Ohm Walsh 2000s, purchased new in 2009.  Each one has its own dedicated Vandersteen 2Wq sub with M5HP battery biased crossover.  I had these before the Ohms, with a pair of Vandersteen 1Cs.  The Ohms have responded beau...
