Finally absolutely satisfied with my system
chayro - I did.  My first "hi-fi" 'table was an entry-level Technics with Stanton pickup in 1976.  My current 'table is a modded Thorens TD-166MkII I bought new in 1984.  I run it with either an Ortofon OM-30 or a Denon 160 cartridge.  But man doe...
Opinions on Ohm Walsh 2000 or JM-Lab Daline 3.1 ?
czar2000 - I like it very much, but it bears little resemblance to a stock Beresford. The modder, K-Works (Igor Kuznetzov) replaced most of the electronic components (but not the DAC chip), added EMF sheeting, and mine has a huge 12 volt power sup...
Lifters ForGetting Cables Off The Floor, Worth It Or Snake Oil
Mine were coiled about 6 or 7 times, so there you go.  Thanks, toddverrone, induction was what I was thinking of.  Yet another Senior Moment.
What did you own in the 60's?
A one-speed Schwinn, and a clam-shell GE record changer.  My folks owned a mono system - Rek-O-Kut 'table, Audax 'arm, GE mono cartridge, Bogen DB35 integrated tube amp and one KLH speaker.  They replaced the 'table with a Dual 1019 at some point ...
Finally absolutely satisfied with my system
I hate to say this, but... Even though there are times when I am thrilled with my rig, when it seems everything is just right, a real goldilocks situation, there are times when things are less right.  Then, when I am thinking it just can't get any...
NJ Audio Society?
juancgenao - Thank you for your interest in the New Jersey Audio Audio Society.  Those considering joining the NJAS are welcome to attend any meeting to try us out.  If you choose to join, you can join either at that meeting or at the next one you...
Glare on Choral recordings, classical vocals
Everything counts!!!!  I enjoy the Talis Scholars recordings on the Gimel label in my modest system.  After adding a power filter, I noticed what sounded like clipping on louder passages of Talis Scholars recordings.  Long story, but it turned out...
Opinions on Ohm Walsh 2000 or JM-Lab Daline 3.1 ?
Arron - As for auditioning the speakers, Ohm offers a 120-day in-home trial.  If you decide to return them, you do lose the round-trip shipping.Since I am unfamiliar with the JM-lab speakers (I thought they were known as Focal nowadays), I cannot ...
Lifters ForGetting Cables Off The Floor, Worth It Or Snake Oil
I am agnostic on whether cable risers make a difference. Therefore, I would not spend a lot of money on cable risers, especially since my basement system does not have appearence rules set by my wife. That said, a few years back, an audio buddy or...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
which super tweeters do you use, enginedr1960?
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
t8kc - I agree with you... I was kinda grasping at straws for an explanation.  Maybe it's because my room, while large, is oddly shaped, with a ~10 ft. niche where the speakers are.  Maybe that helps their efficiancy?  So, I guess it would be my r...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
t8kc - Maybe it’s your room? My 2000s do fine with 150 watts per - Odyssey Audio HT3 with cap upgrade. I had borrowed Arion Audio 500 watt monoblocks for a few weeks about 5 years ago. The sound might have been just a little more open, but not eno...
Vinyl recordings - best methods
I was at Dave Garretson’s yesterday and was fortunate to hear some of his needle drops. To say I was impressed would be a vast understatement. I don’t think I have heard better quality from digitized vinyl. Now, besides the fact that Dave knows wh...
Morrow SP7 Upgrade.
Update - One huge, and I mean huge improvement I neglected to include in my last post regards sibilants on voices. Previously, I had a fairly frequent issue in which vocal sibilants projected from a different location in space than the voice itsel...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Peter - I am a bit curious - wouldn't putting a large tweeter above the driver in the Ohms ruinn the upward radiation of sound?  AFAIK, I think that is a big part of the Ohm sound.  I have thought about adding a supertweeter to my Ohms, especially...
