Publication bias and confounders in product reviews - TAS, Stereophile, Audiogon, etcetera
i can only speak from personal experience.  My products have received good reviews in Stereophile without advertising with them.  Conversely, I am unable to get my products reviewed by The Absolute Sound.
Is a SUT needed?
Roulegas.   Since you brought up the Stereophile Shindo measurements, did you see the review on the SKY 40 where Art Dudley preferred the SKY SUT instead of the internal transformers in the Shindo?   Did you see that the Shindo uses Internal Lunda...
Would love some feedback / Denon DL-S1 / phono match / cart recomendations
The Denon DL-S1 has an output of .15mV and 40 ohms internal impedance.  Because of the high internal impedance, an active phono stage will be a better match than a SUT.  Disclaimer- I manufacture Bob's Devices SUTs.  The 60dB gain of your phono st...
Is a SUT needed?
This is going to be rather long, but I will try to explain the difference between using an external MC step-up transformer into a MM phono stage, and using a self-contained phono preamp that does it all. Disclaimer:   I manufacture Step up transf...
Is a SUT needed?
WOW.  i Wish I knew everything like you Raulrugas.
Is a SUT needed?
Do you have the XV-1 XV-1s or XV-1T.  It depends on the both the internal impedance and output voltage to determine which step up or whether an active stage would be better.  If the impedance is low enough, a quality SUT will sound better than the...

The real issue is that the DL-S1 has an output of .15mV with an internal impedance of 40 ohms.  There is no step up transformer that can do it justice.  If you raise the gain enough, you load the cartridge too much.  You have to use an active stag...
On Step Ups and the Importance of Managing Gain
I agree with folkfreak, which is why Bob's Devices now has the SKY 10.  The SKY 10 has step up ratios of 1:10 and 1:5.  The 1:5 ratio was selected to meet the needs of those phono stages that have high gain settings of around 60 dB.
Audio Research PH5 Phono Preamplifier Input Clipping Problem
I refuse to get into a pissing contest with a skunk.  Done here.
Audio Research PH5 Phono Preamplifier Input Clipping Problem
I have had no luck with using a SUT with the ARC-5.  The gain of 57.5 is difficult to work with.  Almarg is correct.  However, if you look at the signal to noise ratios of active MC/MM phono stages, you will find that the signal to noise ratio usi...
VPI MOTOR PULLEY ??
yeah, i used to live in Wilmington, NC but got tired of the heat and humidity.  Moved the family and the company to Montana.  Back on topic, I never got an email from autospec.  He must have been talking about someone else.
VPI MOTOR PULLEY ??
I am in Billings, MT and have a shop that is by appointment only.  I mostly do mail order and audio shows.
Audio Research PH5 Phono Preamplifier Input Clipping Problem
Using a step up transformer of 1:20 will give you an output from the cartridge of 5.2mV, about the same as that of a MM cartridge.  The PH5 overloads at 70mV and typically if you allow for about 10x the input voltage for peak overloads, you have e...
VPI MOTOR PULLEY ??
and you don't even have to log in.  you can email bob@bobsdevices.com or call at 910-612-8666.   I will just need a photo of your pulley.
VPI MOTOR PULLEY ??
HI This is Bob from Bob's Devices.  I don't remember getting an email recently about a pulley, but typically I only need a photo to make sure you get the right part.  VPI is not standard on their parts, even on the same table.  If someone emails o...
