"Ringing from pre-amp
I'm not that well versed with glassware myself Swamp. The 6V6's are output followers or buffers? Whatever, doubful that anything has been damaged. After you run the "tap-test" revert to your original tube configuration in order to find out for sur...
Braun L1038/8 Crossover needed - HELP
If the board isn't seriously fragmented (broken in half is bad enough! but could be recoverable) it might be possible to join the halves together with epoxy etc, and then solder-bridge some solid copper conductors across the board traces in order ...
"Ringing from pre-amp
Swamp: that's a bad tube - I've experienced it too in a VTL 5.5 preamp. Doubt that you've damaged anything - take off the top & tap the tubes individually while listening so that you can locate & throw away the culprit
Rowland Model 5 vs. McCormack DNA-1?
Frank sorry I can't answer this question, so mainly I'm posting to the thread in order to follow it. You certainly know Rowland's reputation; I would think the M5 could better the DNA-1. I have both a regular & a deluxe version so I'm leaning ...
Any advise to improve my system
Pops & G13 have both expressed my sentiment regarding the SR Master Couplers. Despite other improvements, I experienced considerable thinning of the bass region with those particular AC cords when I tried them. I also have one SR Reference AC ...
Need help from Z-Systems owners
Have no RDP experience here, but your problem is charactaristic of a noisy environment & may be system specific. Check your interconnect cables, grounding, try some AC conditioning, maybe even an upgrade AC cord? Take it into an entirely diffe...
replacing Audio Research power chords
IEC's and chassis punches are available from Parts Express. Ground is not really a big issue as long as you replicate the original circuit; perhaps not even then?
Humming Noise
The first step in this diagnosis is to disconnect all inputs, power back on, then check for the hum. If you still have it then try an AC polarity change &/or temporarily lift the ground with a cheater adapter. If all that fails then you do ver...
Power Cables with rolling tweaks
I once had 2 Eldorado's & they were pretty decent silver cords; certainly lightweight & flexible enough for your proposed application. Soundwise though I sold them for some Custom Power AC cords which are much heavier & wouldn't work r...
Daisy-chain an amp or not
Agree that this is not a good idea for the above-stated reasons. Then again, if the rig is such that you don't perceive any improvement in sound after your amp warms up then it might not be too bad, although your peak current capability will still...

Help for girlfriend HT speaker system???
How about a pre-neptual stating that the gear is exclusively yours alone regardless of where the relationship goes? If she won't sign then don't EVEN proceed (but hey, you already knew that)
Absorbtion?
IMO your room is not too small. There are other issues at work here, synergy being the primary I believe. Not sure where you're going with the 'glass' question but certainly it reflects. I had a pair of split glass doors on my heavy wooden compon...
Does EVERY component need break-in?
Jeff L. I think that you're referring to "component warmup" vs. breakin phenomenon. Although this is more of a solid state issue, even tubed equipment containing solid state voltage regulators needs to be kept warm. It takes about 30 hours for the...
