What age did the "audio bug" hit you?
I was first caught tearing apart clocks, then my first old radio, before I even knew how to read. Built some elementary kits in gradeschool. Built a 2-way shack, cheap sound system, & my own pirate radio station in the basement by age 13. Buil...
Opinions, Is this better for the Members?
seems a bit too complicated; the original system worked fine for me, but this is probably alright too I guess?
Made rookie mistake w/soldering:need help
I don't believe the CJ is full balanced, so likely it's just a common ground & shouldn't actually matter that much if at all.
Is your FM tuner affected by interference?
I'm not referring to either local 'adjacent-channel' or high-power 'desense' types of issues: co-channel interference means receiving another station which is broadcasting (from a further distance away) but on the *same* frequency as your nearby s...
Unintended lyrics
Mitch: I've always heard "burn the longest fuse I've ever known" it's just a reference to their long prelaunch countdowns isn't it?
Speed Box for turntable
Have also read about (but have not actually verified myself) that upgrading the AC cord connecting to the SDS results in sonic benefits. It would seem then that upgrading the AC cord wired into the motor would also yield improvement, although that...
Low, medium and high compliance cartriges.
The effective mass of your tonearm basically determines your choice of cartrige in terms of compliance. Higher mass arms are generally coupled with low compliance designs & the lower mass arms with higher compliance cartriges. George Merrill w...
Lisa Marie Presley
Lisa has just released "Now What" her 2nd effort, two years later. The writing & sound are quite similar to her first; if you liked that, them you'll like this one too. She does a real nice job covering Don Henley's 'Dirty Laundry'. So many co...
Best preamp w/Tuner for McCmk DNA-500?
I'm thinking that Musical Fidelity made a preamp+tuner combo? Sorry I can't be any more specific.
Unused balanced outputs
if you want to experiment, you might try terminating the unused outputs with 600 ohm resistors soldered onto the Cannon plugs (placed across pins 2&3 I think, but do verify that) pin 1 I think is the ground pin which wouldn't be connected to a...
Best Jazz and Rock & Roll HDCD CDs
Stevie Nicks' Enchanted boxed set is phenomenal, it is not marked HDCD
Navacon or Sorbothane Isolators for VPI mk4
Tom I know that I've read forum postings regarding someone's successful experiments with alternatives to the spring suspension, but it's not going to be especially easy locating those posts. I don't recall what was used (perhaps Black Diamond cone...
Is your FM tuner affected by interference?
I was also thinking that co-channel interference could also be bothering your reception; again a directional antenna is worthwhile trying.
Thoughts about these forums
As another of those 'dirty dozen' members who refused to let our forums die, I too had been away for quite some time, although I've again been participating a little more lately. Occasionally I've tried to recall the names of the others: Jade of c...
Is your FM tuner affected by interference?
try a directional beam yagi-type FM antennayour multipath issues are certainly not a fault in the tuner - I experience similar interference under certain conditions similar to what you've described, even with the yagi
