Cables 101, new student, first question
@hobo1452:  I have read comments elsewhere regarding Pangea cables, to the effect that they were not very good cables.  Audio Advisor features Pangea and at reasonable prices, but given those comments I did not buy any.  Pangea claims to use very ...
Do speaker wires matter
@em2music:  I was not familiar with your speakers but looked them up — very nice gift someone made to you, especially if the drivers are in good shape!   With half the speakers rear-firing, it would seem that positioning out from the rear wall/cor...
How old are you?
I’m 65, and getting into higher end equipment only this year.  My first stereo that wasn’t junk was a Pioneer SX626 I got at 16, then a pair of Radio Shack Realistic Nova 7 speakers, and a cheap Garrard TT.  Then got large Advents and a Sony reel ...
An old phrase which, I believe, may be timely...
I haven’t had any problems so far with buying equipment, but only two of those items were bought used.  I have not sold anything yet, but that might concern me more than buying.  There are people out there that don’t want to pay a reasonable price...
Any advice? Parasound A21, Ayre V5xe, Benchmark AHB2, or Bryston 4B3?
I have owned an A21 since January and only heard it through my Martin Logan speakers, so cannot compare to other amps/speakers as others here can.  I can say that my amp does not run hot . . slightly warm only . . but I have it open to room air an...
Power strips- too many choices
Like jetter, I use a Furman PST-8.  That Elite 15 looks nice too, for a lot more money.
Why do some think "music" (not gear, trading, etc.) is the ultimate end?
I certainly enjoy the music, but I also enjoy dusting and polishing the my equipment, so I guess I can understand both.  If I had technical knowledge, I would probably enjoy testing and replacing the electrolytics (I would jump on buying equipment...
Advice Regarding Reel-to-Reel
I haven't heard it play yet. The husband offered to play it for me but I needed to get going. Maybe I will call and ask to hear it play, and if it sounds alright and the price is the same, I might buy it. Then take my time getting it serviced. No ...
Has "politically correct" killed the used audio market?
I enjoyed a list that defined terms commonly used on dating sites:“Good conversationalist” = they never stop talking”Family-oriented” = their kids are part of the deal”Well read and educated” = think they are too good for you”Likes to travel” = yo...
100 W Tube Amplifier Malfunctioned
@scrumpymanjack — precisely!   I never understood companies not even trying to build good will with customers and also getting positive word-of-mouth reviews of their customer support.  Sounds short-sighted to me too,Im not tech savvy at all, but ...
Why is black so popular for components?
I recall a few decades ago that the cheap electronics (e.g., Grand Prix, Emerson, Panasonic) came in various color combinations, some of which were attractive.  I wondered at the time why the truly hifi gear was so boring to look at.  To have colo...
What Do You Think?
@asvjerry, My listening room is 14’ x 19’, short ceiling (around 7’) and currently filled with furniture.  I also have a 65” tv mounted on wall, so I have to accommodate that.  I have a somewhat larger room, but it’s right off the front door and I...
Unbelievable 3-D imaging sound
@preslisa64, I am not versed in all this equipment and just looked up some of what you have.  Just the speakers, monoblocks and that Mac C53 you will be getting put the total up around $30,000!   Definitely not a starter set!  Lol.  Out of my leag...
What Do You Think?
Probably the first thing I should do is go to a high end audio store and listen to electrostatics to see if I like the sound, right?
What Do You Think?
So . . . Magnepan 3.7  >  1.7  >  LRS  >  MMG?
